Tuesday 8 March 2011 Blue Crabs and Squid

We woke to a very overcast sky and it had been raining overnight. By about 8am we had decided to just go out in the boat, it wasn’t windy, just a bit of drizzle.

Deb stayed back at the read and relaxed, while Tom, Vonnie and I headed out into the misty rain. About 10 mins into our ride out, the rain stopped and the skies opened to give us a few blue patches.

The fishing was great. I have been in SA for over 10 years now and I have finally burst by squid “cherry”. We had been stopped for about an hour and had hauled in about 8 crabs, when Tom said he saw some squid. I got my squid jig out and in no time at all I had a large squid in the boat and squirting ink everywhere. Not long after that I got another, equally as big, and this time I got “Inked” good and proper. I had squid ink from my knees to my face, and a good amount dripping off my sunnies!!! None the less I was “happy as a pig in sh#t”.

I eventually got about 6 squid, Tom and Vonnie didn’t get any, they were too busy crabbing and getting some garfish.

We eventually headed back at about 12:30, just as the wind started to pick-up, We had just under 20 crabs, about 6 garfish, a salmon trout and 6 squid. We were all very happy with ourselves.

Back at the caravan park, we cleaned the crabs and fish, and cooked the crabs.

It’s crab and salad again for tea again tonight, (tough huh!!) and we have some fish and squid to take home.

.Apparently Adelaide had its wettest March Day in a long time, getting all its’ March rain in a day. Good job we were up here then, lol!!

We leave for home tomorrow, and have already decided that we have to come back up here. And we have a standing invitation to a pizza Friday night at their place and the go out in the boat the day after.
