18th July 2011 Albany

Thank you everyone for the great birthday wishes, they are all very much appreciated, and yes Craig even your phone call at 7am this morning!! (remember this thing called time zones).   (it was a relief when you rang Craig I was awake from 5am waiting for the old boy to wake up!! So thankyou 🙂

It was great to get up and see that we had a beautiful blue sky sunshiny sort of day.

We had a really fun day. We started with a drive east to Whale World at Frenchman Bay, a museum set up at Australia’s last functioning whaling station, it finished operating in 1978. (Now that staggered me). We took the guided tour which was very
informative. They didn’t hold back on anything about whaling, it was shown in its’ full brutality. From the way that the whales were hunted with grenade loaded harpoons to the barbaric bloody way they were cut up and processed. I am so glad it has been stopped.

After there we went for a leisurely drive along the coast calling into all the sights along the dramatic coastline. We saw Misery Beach (which was just around from the Whaling Station, where the beach used to be red with whale blood), and then onto more pleasant sights such as the Blow Hole, the Natural Bridge, the Gap and Salmon Holes. The coast is amazing in this part of the world, steep granite shoreline and you can tell that the seas can be VERY unforgiving.

After that we did a little shopping (got Deb a new pillow, so I hope her neck gets better) and then some lunch.

Back at the caravan park around 2:45, and I went down to the beach to try a little fishing. As usual, I didn’t catch a thing, but it was very relaxing anyway. I came back about 4:15, the clouds started to come in and it was getting a bit fresh down at the beach.

Dinner tonight at Calamari’s Restaurant  🙂

Dinner was fine and the company amazing 🙂

Now, a couple of Hardy’s Show Ports to finish the night and my day off.    Cheers all.
