We woke this morning to a rather hazy/smoky caravan park. I immediately put it down to the scout jamboree that is apparently here this week end. But I think I may have been wrong, but you will have to read on to find out why. 🙂
We had another quiet relaxing morning. It’s another blue sky sun shiny sort of day, we just have to work on this southerly wind, and all would be perfect.
After a lazy morning Patrick came down and picked me up to play golf. He came over and had a look over the van and seemed to like it. Deb was going to have a quiet day reading.
Pat and I headed off for golf at the Par 3 Course in Terrey Hills. On the way there we started hearing sirens and saw lots of smoke up in front of us, seemingly coming from about where the golf course was. The traffic stopped and there were Bush Fire Brigade trucks speeding around in all directions and helicopters overhead. As we got near the golf we saw that the fire was across the road down in a valley, and it looked like it had taken hold with the help of the wind. This may have been the cause of all the smoke at the van park this morning.
As we turned into the golf course we saw that the Bush Fire Brigade had set up a base in a reserve for refuelling the helicopters. There were three helicopters coming and going all afternoon, 2 of them had water buckets attached to them.
It was very surreal, playing golf with smoke blowing across the course, helicopters coming and going, sirens blaring in the distance, while on the course there was a group of guys, clearly on a bucks party, people pulling Eskies around with them rather that golf buggies, a kids birthday party group and a mix of everything else in between.
The course was a lot of fun. Like I said it’s a Par 3 course with the longest hole being a full 83m and the shortest was 38m. I am glad I left my woods at the van, when you hire clubs up there you are given a pitching wedge and a putter! This is the first round I have ever played where I got 72 off the stick!!! LOL It’s a Par 54, so 18 over is half respectable, Pat got a few more than that. A few of the local rules sum the course and its Patrons up pretty well. “Rule 4 Players must not proceed beyond the areas marked “Out of Bounds” for safety. It was a bit steep on the northern side of the course into fairly rocky and well-timbered scrub. And Rule 9 ( I love Rule 9) Do not stand in front of any person playing a stroke or shot. (Gee they take all the fun out of it!!)
We got back to the van at about 4 and Pat stayed for a little while. I really enjoyed the afternoon with him, I don’t get to do it very often.
Tonight Australia plays NZ in a Rugby Test, and I am afraid that the result may not be very good for us, I just hope they put up a respectable effort.
We were pleased to hear that Dante and Tessa enjoyed their basketball and both even managed to score a goal. Looking forward to watching them play soon. 🙂
