Sunday 21st October Narrabeen

We were up and about by about 8:30am this morning, it seems that Tent City or the suburb, as Deb has come to call it, is being packed up for the weekend and lots of people are heading home.  It will be nice to have all the crowds gone, if only for one day.

We headed down to the beach for a walk. It seemed to be Nippers morning at all the surf clubs.  All these tiny people running around with surf club “skull Cap” hats on.  Deb had never seen the hats before, so I had a bit of explaining to do, lol. There was a large pod of Dolphins swimming off North Narrabeen Beach, and I think we were the only one to be surprised.  The surf was quite small, maybe 3′ sets, but there were still lots of people out enjoying the waves.  I have seen my first paddle boards surfing here, it’s a little strange to see someone standing on a board paddling with an oar to catch a wave, but it looks lots of fun.

Well we just kept on walking and it wasn’t long before we reached Collaroy, about 3.2km from North Narrabeen.  It was a fun walk, taking in all the houses (good and bad), the unit blocks (mostly ugly) and the surf and everyone enjoying the sunshine and the water.  We walked back along the main road to the caravan park.  Along the way we passed an open for inspection at a block of apartments. We had a look through a smallish 3 bedroom apartment, it was ours for the taking at a cool $2.135 million, but we decided to pass on it! (it had no views!!)

In the afternoon I took my kayak out for a spin on the lake and tried a bit of fishing.  I started out using pilchards, with no success, so I decided to give some plastics a go.  I picked out one that looked a bit like a “nipper” and just went for a drift to see what happened.  I was surprised.  I got quite a few little bites (seems there are only little fish in the lake from what I have seen).  The kayak is lots of fun, very stable and easy to paddle and fish from, so I hope to have a bit more luck on the fish front down on the south coast.  After a couple of hours I called it quits and came back to the van for a relaxing afternoon reading and doing a little packing up, before we head out to Patricks for tea tonight.  I think he is cooking up a Spanish feast for us.  We will let you know how it was. 🙂 (Dinner was very tasty, a Spanish Chicken  and Olives dish and a potato and chorizo salad, washed down with a Shaw and Smith Sav Blanc)

Tomorrow is shaping up to be a busy day.  We move van parks, go from here, Narrabeen, to Lane Cove National Park.  We will be heading out of here at about 9am (just on the tail of the peak hour traffic I hope), drop the van off at the Caravan Park and then head up to Gosford to see mum performing in a “Cabaret Review” (for want of a better description) at lunch time, then back down to Sydney for dinner with Laura.
