Monday 22 October 2012 Narrabeen to Lane Cove 23km

A short move, from the Northern Beaches to the North Shore, just to get a bit of a different Sydney experience.  A change is as good as a holiday, so they say, so we thought we would give it a try. Yep it works, still feels like we’re on holiday!

It turned out to be a good day for travel, the weather has turned a bit for the worse, dark skies, wind and rain.  We left Narrabeen at 9:20am, and were very pleasantly surprised that all the peak hour traffic had gone, and we had an easy drive to Lane Cove National Park.  A beautiful park full of gum trees, it is like we are a million miles away from anywhere (although being in the flight path does give it away!)  we are here until Thursday.  We arrived and were through check-in by 10:15, and all set-up and out again on our way back up to Gosford by 10:40am.

Mum was performing  in a French themed review being put on by the Gosford RSL Women’s Auxiliary. When we got up there we were shown to our table, we must be important, we were on the main table.   But then mum is the VP.

They had an audience of around 155 from all over the central coast.  The review started after the main course of lunch.  For me, the highlight of the afternoon was mum and a three other ladies doing the Cancan, complete with a partial strip-tease.   (Not something you ever imagine seeing your mother do on stage!)  If they weren’t having so much fun on stage, I may have been traumatised by the sight for the remainder of my life!!   It was a fun afternoon and I guess it was about time I saw mum doing her thing(mmm those visuals again, maybe not the right word there, lol), she has been doing these fundraising reviews twice a year  for many years now, and this is the first I have seen.

We left up there around 3.30pm and headed back to Lane Cove to finish settling in and then went into town to have dinner with Laura.  We met Laura at her new place in Bellevue Hill, the posh end of town, but that’s my Laura!  She’s enjoying living at the new place and her flat mates seemed nice.  We went to Bondi for dinner at Bondi Social, a small Tapas style restaurant on Bondi Beach.  It’s a pity the weather was foul,  otherwise we could have sat out on the balcony and watch the world pass by down on the beach, the views from the restaurant over Bondi where spectacular.   The food was very good and the company even better.  We had a very enjoyable time catching up.  The time went too quickly, and we eventually dropped Laura back home and headed back to Lane Cove to finish our day.

We both hope Sarah is back home today, (I am sure she will be, Ben’s special delivery Custard and Jelly is sure to have done the trick), little health hiccups aren’t much fun, but it’s always good to know there are lots of family around to help out when they are really needed. xox
