Thursday 25th October 2012 Lane Cove to Huskisson via the Grand Pacific Drive 240km, and 26th October 2012 Huskisson. Mollymook and Ulladulla.

We were on the road just after 9am this morning, avoiding peak hour (much happiness).   We had a really good run through Sydney.    The lanes are much narrower in Sydney, Greg has done an awesome job driving with our van on the back, we more or less take up the whole lane.    I was relieved when we were through the city, I was the only tense one!!  Greg took it all in his stride.

We took the Grand Pacific Drive which is just before Wollongong, the views were spectacular and the Sea Cliff bridge an architectural marvel.  (Greg here, our first attempt to get on the GPD was a failure, I tried to get onto the start of the road by going through Royal National Park, but once we got down to the bottom of the valley, passed all the winding roads and hairpin turns, we found the road was blocked for road works and had to go back up the hill through all the tight curves and get onto it further down the coast!)  We both have a fascination for bridges and enjoyed this one as much as any we have seen, hopefully we have a nice photo and we will post one. (Maybe not the best photo, but it’s worth seeing)

When we reached Wollongong, we parked up by the light house and had a bit of a walk around and took more photos.    I have enjoyed the opportunity that the holiday has bought to take photos.

Next stop Berry, I love this little town, it is in the middle of dairy country, lush green, beautiful trees and lots of great little shops in the main street.    I was excited to be visiting again.

We pulled the van up on the side of the road and went in to make lunch.   When I went inside there was a great smell that took me a moment to place.  Then it hit me, sweet chili!!    There on the floor was our bottle of sweet chili sauce that we had only bought a few weeks ago.   Only now it was broken and the full contents of the really large bottle were all over the floor.   Fortunately it was more or less pooled in one spot by the stove and just into the bathroom.     But it had crept into a few crevices and into the recess for the sliding bathroom door!!    With a bit of perseverance we cleaned it up and then had lunch!!

Hopefully in future, I will be a bit more diligent in putting our food into the baskets that are in the cupboard before we hit the road!!

I had lots of fun exploring the shops in Berry and Greg was patient and gracious (more happiness!!)

Around 3 we got into Huskisson, we got a bit lost finding the caravan park as there were some road works and quite a lot of detours.   At one stage we were down a dead end street and had to do a 3/6 point turn to get out.   I was quite shocked as we pulled away to notice that we had left quite deep tyre tracks in the bitumen, guess those caravan tyres worked hard turning the van!!    Mmmm glad I don’t live in the house by that bit of road!!!

We eventually made it to the park and we have a nice site that eventually backs onto the beach after you go through a fence, then a path and some trees!!   It is a nice outlook.

After setting up, we went off into town for a look and walked back along the beach.    It is a beautiful beach, set in a really large bay (Jervis Bay), the temperature was in the low 30’s and quite a few people were swimming and sunbathing.    After dinner Greg went back to the beach to try his luck fishing.    He only caught a small tailor, which he threw back.    Oh well there is always tomorrow 🙂

Ethan, hope you are feeling better and that the medicine is working.    Have lots of fun in Sydney with Grandma and Grandpa   Love you xo   Ella it will be fun to have mummy and daddy all to yourself, hope you get lots of treats 🙂 Love you xo

Friday 26th October 2012 Huskisson

Hello 🙂

The weather today was not so nice!  Cold and windy, so we decided to go for a drive to some nearby towns.   Our first stop was the Lady Denman Heritage Complex in Huskisson.    It took me a while to work out where the name come from, the Lady Denman is a ferry that worked in Sydney harbour in the 1900’s, it was made in Huskisson and when it was no longer in use it was bought back to Huskisson and eventually ended up in the museum, which was built around it!   I have to say I was rather dubious about visiting, it was $10 each to go inside, but I am so glad we did.    I was amazed at the quality of the museum and the exhibits – it could have proudly stood in any capital city in the world, was really impressive.    I have never seen anything like it in any small town anywhere.    The museum covers the history of the area since white man arrived.   They also have a mangrove boardwalk out the back.  If you are ever in this neck of the woods it is well worth a visit.

Next stop Milton, a quaint town with you guessed it lots of lovely shops 🙂   Then it was off to Mollymook, and then Ulladulla, where we went to Ulladulla Guest house to see an exhibit of paintings by Meagan Jacobs, a friend of Greg’s from his teenage years, we both enjoyed seeing her work, it is always more meaningful when you know the artist.

For tea we went to the Husky Pub, we shared a seafood platter and soaked up a beautiful view out over the bay.

Tomorrow Tuross Heads awaits!
