Friday 2nd November 2012 Mallacoota

We woke this morning to find the weather hadn’t improved all that much from yesterday afternoon, although I guess the rain had stopped and the wind wasn’t as strong.

After a slow start I decided to take to the water in the kayak and try the fish again. Deb thought better of it and had her heart set on a day cuddled up in bed with her Kindle.

I spent a couple of hours out on the lake. It was really easy going out, with the tide and the wind. I finally broke my drought, using a plastic that looked a bit like a small poddy mullet, I caught my first fish in Mallacoota (this visit), a small, 250mm, dusky flathead. After marvelling at its’ existence I set it free to enjoy the vast lake. Soon after I thought it best if I went back. This sounded easier than the reality of it. Paddling directly into a howling westerly and against the tide wasn’t too enjoyable. I put my head down to shade my eyes from the salt spray and just started paddling. About 2/3s the way back I pulled into an island to empty the water out of the kayak, and then got back to it.  😛

After hosing down the kayak and all my gear, it was so good to get into a warm shower and start thawing out! I even put the A/C on to try and warm myself up.  😛

Lunch was a cheese platter in the van followed by a run then a relaxing afternoon. On another note, the van looked pretty clean after my efforts in the rain yesterday, call me crazy, but it worked!

For dinner we went to the local Noodle House, Lucy’s. The food was the best we have had in Mallacoota, so much better than the pub. So if your ever in town, make sure you give it a go, you won’t be disappointed.

Thanks to Ben and Carly for all the running around they have been doing for us over the last few days. And Congrats to Carly for being published in The Piano Teachers Australia Magazine.  We can’t wait to read the article you have written. We hope Brian is working his knee to get it better (and I like his form, getting some girls around to our place to do things for him, like mow the lawn!!!)  🙂
