We woke at about 6:30, Aiko slept on our bed and she decided it was time to get up, or at least be taken out side. Reluctantly I got up and took her outside, it was a beautiful morning, still with blue skies and the warmth of the day was just starting to kick in.
After breakfast I headed out to the jetty to try my luck. Unfortunately the wind had picked up in the short time between me getting up and having breakfast and heading out. I got out to the end of the jetty and got a couple of lines into the water, followed fairly quickly, with the aid of the wind, my catch bucket!! Yep, short of diving in to retrieve it, my catch bucket was gone!! As it turned out, this didn’t pose any problems for the next couple of hours, no fish, not even a bite. I did see a few others catch the odd small squid, but nothing bothered my lines.
The highlight of my morning out on the jetty was a small seal that was swimming in and out of the the jetty pillars, it was having a great time. By 9:30 I was cold and catchless, so I headed back for a warming coffee, and waited for the sun to come out again and hopefully the wind to ease off a bit. The challenge is on to catch tonights tea!Deb has her papers on her iPad and is content to just sit/lie back and relax. I think Aiko is being a bit demanding, jumping up and down off the bed and wanting to get out. But she apparently calms down and sleeps just before I get back. 🙂
I headed back out in hunter gatherer mode at about 11 to try my luck again. By midday I hadn’t caught a thing and neither had anyone else out on the jetty from what I could see. I was about to give up and go in for lunch when I got a hit and reeled in a medium sized squid. I think it must have been lost because there weren’t any of its friends around. I moved to the centre of the jetty and got another squid about the same size, I was happy we had just enough for tea tonight, anything more would be a bonus. 1pm came around and there was no more hints of a bite. So I headed in, cleaned the squid and then back to the van for lunch.
Deb had already eaten and was very relaxed. After lunch I took Aiko out for a short walk and then got my guitar out to do a little practice. I have been trying to learn guitar off and on for the last few years, I am sure one day it might all come together.
At about 3, I went back out to try my luck on the jetty, but like everyone else out there, the only thing I got was a relaxing afternoon, no fish/squid. I did see that one person had caught a small shark, so I went back to Deb and Aiko at 5pm.
We marinated the squid in some Chilli Jam and cooked it up in the camp kitchen (to save stinking out the van). Deb made a delicious salad, and we sat down for tea and watched the sun set over the gulf while we ate and washed it down with a nice wine.
The end of another hard day in paradise.
Tomorrow we head back to Adelaide to watch our live-in nephew, Brian, play for North Adelaide in the SANFL elimination semi final against the Eagles. So, Go the Roosters!!!
