We had a full on day today, Brian, our live in nephew, was playing for North Adelaide in the SANFL League minor semi-final against Woodville West Torrens (Eagles).
The game started at 12:10, so we had to leave Port Vic early to drop Aiko home and get out to Footy Park for the game. After planning to get away around 8:30am, we were on the road at a little after 8, and the day became much easier. It’s a little under 200km to get back home, and without the van behind us a much smoother ride. The van amplifies any little bump or dip.
We made it to the ground at about 11:40, Brian had left us tickets for the members area (he is very thoughtful like that 🙂 ). As we settled in we watched the rest of the family settle into the stand on the other side of the ground. It was so good to see so many come out to support him. Ella and Ethan, with the help of Carly, had made signs for Brian. My favourite read ‘FENTONS ON FIRE’ . They were both so excited and very proud of their cousin. Brian’s job in this and the preliminary semi last week, is to very closely tag the major mid-field ball winner for the opposition. This is a very physical assignment and he does it very well. The game got off to a rocky start and North were even with the Eagles at 1/4 time ( 2.3 to 2.3) 15 all and then behind at 1/2 time (4.4 to 8.5) 28 to 53. I don’t know what happened at half time but they came out firing and by 3/4 time had reduced the deficit to 17points (6.9 to 8.5) 53 to 70. The final qtr was great for North, and they ran away to win 8.10 83 to 15.10 100.
Brian did his job very well again, at one point we saw the guy he was tagging shake his head wondering how to get away from him. Unfortunately, similar to last week, the frustration with him by the opposition resulted in Brian being King Hit again, in a late attempt to take him out of the game. But he bouced back and finished the game strongly.
We left Footy Park at about 3pm, drove home got Aiko and few few things we forgot to take and were back up at Port Vic by about 5:45pm. Deb made us bacon and eggs for tea, which was delicious, then I went out for a spot of night fishing off the jetty.
I am beginning to think that having a seal swimming around the jetty doesn’t go well for the prospects of catching anything much!! Yes that playfull seal was hanging around again and lots of people (well 2 or 3 anyway, there were only about 8 out on the jetty) out on the jetty were complaining about it. I told Deb that I would be back at about 8pm if I wasn’t getting anything. Well by 8pm I had got 3 squid and then the light I was fishing by went out, so I called it a night and went back in, pleased with my catch.
The end of a very busy, but successful day in many ways.
