We had another very leisurely morning, and were away from Tumby at 9:30am. With only 50km to Port Lincoln we were going to take it very easy so we didn’t get to the caravan park too early. 🙂
Just out of Tumby Bay we saw a sign pointing inland down a very long dusty dirt road, it was, “The Rose Garden” we were looking for yesterday! Might visit there the next time we are over here! Lol
About 22km down the road we called into Louth Bay, a very small coastal village with not much going for it from what we could see, however it did have a very impressive looking old pub.
Just out of Port Lincoln we stopped for about 15 mins to take in the view of the harbour. I read somewhere that the harbour here is 3 times the size of Sydney Harbour, and that if there had been more fresh water here, Port Lincoln would have been the capital of SA.
We checked in at 11am for 4 nights. It is a very large CP and we think it is only recently that they have allowed pets to stay. So we are at the far end of the park in an area designated for pets. There aren’t many people in the park so everyone is pretty spread out and not camped right next to each other.
Once we had settled in and had a bit of lunch, (Deb is turning out the best tasting wraps for lunch. 🙂 ), we went into town to get a few things and had a walk along the foreshore to the statue of Makybe Diva. If the statue is full life size, she is a much smaller horse than we had both imagined (Wiki says she is 15.2 hands high, about 45.6 inches or almost 115cm, but where that is measured to I have no idea).
Our plan and timing to come down here was based on a heat wave hitting Eyre Peninsular, but other than being warm yesterday it never eventuated and now it looks like we will have heavy’ish rain for the next 3 days.
I went fishing late in the afternoon down on the small jetty near the CP. It looked promising walking out onto it, the end of the jetty was black from squid ink. I was only out for about an hour and didn’t catch anything, BUT I did see a squid!! It chased my lure in, but by the time I saw it my lure was out of the water and the squid was gone. The rain started so I left it at that with promises of another day.
Back in the van, Deb was on the phone to Justin (her brother) and he gave me some good tips on getting Snook off the main jetty in town. (I have never caught a Snook, so I am looking forward to ticking that off my list 🙂 , thanks Jus. )
The rain over the next few days will give us a good excuse (not that we need one) to sit back and do a bit of reading and maybe play some cards. I think that is one of the things I really love about “Van Holidays”, you really can just chill and do nothing, with very few distractions.
