No wake up bells or fireworks this morning! Deb was a bit worried that might happen, so her sleep was a bit patchy. Nothing but church/clock bells this morning. On the road for Puebla at 8:55am for the approx. 350km drive. The roads aren’t bad here, 2 lanes each way divided highways for the most part. There were many trucks on the road, but we have found that Mexicans seem to be very polite and patient on the roads. Trucks always keep to the right when ever possible, and the same with slow cars. Just out of San Miguel we passed through a Federal police check point. There were about 12+ police there, most carrying very big sub-machine guns. They randomly check cars/trucks for drugs and other contraband, particularly if the occupants look strange. Apparently we didn’t look too strange this morning and got through no problems. The trip is pretty boring, but is a means to an end. We took the ring-road to the east of Mexico City through the State of Hildalgo. From there it was smooth driving into Puebla State and then into Puebla City. It took a while to find our hotel, a few streets were closed. We eventually found it (about 2:15pm) and parked right out in front, while we got our luggage out. Pity it was a single lane one way street, some of the locals weren’t real happy either when the car was parked so it almost blocked their front door! Ya gotta love Mexico. We got to chose our room, Deb took the one with a window/balcony and A/C as opposed to the one without either!! Ariushka then took us for a walk around the nearby streets to show us a few things we could do a bit later. We then said our good byes to her, she has been such a good guide (we have her card if anyone needs a good guide in the Mexico City area 🙂 ) By this time it was way past lunchtime,(close to 3pm) and we hadn’t eaten anything since 8am. So we got a table at the hotel and had a nice light Mexican meal. It was nice to be by ourselves for a while. Deb had a bit of a lie down after lunch and I went for a walk to get a feel for the place. It’s very busy out there!! Lots of people out enjoying their Saturday afternoon. I walked through some handicraft markets ( same stuff as everywhere else!) and up to a square and park in front of a huge church. It was great fun people watching and just taking things in. I got back to the hotel around 4:45 and put my feet up until dinner here at the hotel. Time to chill for a while.
