Well that was a fun night, not! I think I got a bad mussel, but better out than in I guess, and all good when I woke this morning. So it was a late start to our day.
We took a walk down Canal St and then hung a right into Camp St and into the Warehouse/Arts District. It is an old industrial area of New Orleans that is being given a freshen up. With lots of new Condominiums, museums and galleries going in. We had a look around several galleries, and found some interesting works. Not long after we turned into Camp St we came upon a protest group, they were demonstrating outside a federal Court building where an appeal was being heard about an Immigrant Families Law. They were really organised (fruit, porta-loos and everything for the protestors )
For lunch we walked back into the main part of town and back to Dejavu, it felt like we had been there before. 🙂 You ever get that feeling 🙂
We shared another pulled pork Po-Boy for lunch, delicious.
Back out on the streets and we walked down to Jackson reserve and listened to a few street bands. The amount and quality of the music in this city is amazing. While we were in the area I did a couple of quick Geocaches, found them both. 🙂
After a while we started to head back to the hotel, slowly, soaking up all the Royal and Bourbon St atmosphere. These streets just don’t shut down, it’s loud and colourful 24/7.
John’s son Pete and his wife Rebecca, had a baby girl, Naomi, this afternoon. John and Georgie were over the moon, very proud grandparents, we enjoyed celebrating with them. 🙂
In the evening we took a Jazz cruise on the Steamboat Natchez, a true paddle wheel boat. It was lots of fun, great Dixieland Jazz and a fair buffet meal. The cruise went for 2 hours first down river then back up stream. Deb had done her homework really well and we sat on the port side of the boat for the cruise. 🙂 About 95% of the commentary of the cruise was dedicated to the Port side. Coming back up river, the city lights looked spectacular, and there was a raging lightening storm to the south west, with huge bolts lighting the far skies. This city is beautiful at night.
We walked home via Bourbon St for one last time. Friday night and it was starting to really go!! Swarms of people everywhere and all the sounds and colour we have come to expect.
We have loved our time here, so different to the first half of our holiday.
Tomorrow we fly north to Minnesota, to stay with John and Georgie for 4 nights. It’s a tad cool up there at the moment, 22C tomorrow, but a forecast of 7C for Monday!!
Mum, we both hope your feeling a bit better, thinking of you and sending you lots of love. xo
