We started the day with something REALLY unusual for us, we used public transport!! Yes we eventually worked out where to get a bus into town and like big grown up people, we even got on and off at the right stops. But one thing, the driver really didn’t have to ask me if I had a Seniors Card!!! Are these people trying to tell me something.
The ride into town took all of 20 mins, they have dedicated bus roads here, not just lanes, and the buses speed their way between stops and leave the main arteries for cars. It seems to work very well.
We got off at Queen St and headed straight to the Mall to meet with Greg, an old friend of Deb’s. It didn’t take too long to find him and we were soon having a coffee/tea and catching up with what everyone had been up to for the last 30 years. 🙂 It was an enjoyable hour or so, but Greg had to get to work and we had some exploring to do. So said our good byes and parted ways.
We headed for the river. Our plan (you always need a Plan! 🙂 ) was to catch the free ferry and ride it up and down the river to take in all the sights of the city from the water.
It was a fantastic way to see the city, away from all the cars and people and there are so many great views to be had.
We eventually got off at South Bank and soon found a nice place for lunch (with a bit of help from TripAdvisor). Spanish was the order of the day and the Seafood Platter we had at Ole Spanish Restaurant was delicious.
When we finished we took a walk around the area, it seems to be the arts area of Brisbane with the Conservatorium, many theatres and performance spaces present. The south bank precinct near the river is very lush and green and has many small parks, cafes and restaurants; it even has its own beach, a very lively place to go. It’s also the location of Brisbane’s Wheel, you know that Big Ferris Wheel that so many cities feel they have a need for.
We eventually made our way back over the river and to the Bus Terminal, found the right bus stop and made our way back to the CP. It was a great day, the weather was very kind to us, putting on a beautiful sunny day that wasn’t too hot.
In the evening Emily picked us up and we went off for dinner at Market Square in Sunnybank. It’s a large complex of restaurants, mainly Asian but a variety of other cuisines as well. We ate at a Singaporean Restaurant and finished off with a Papparoti (a simple very light sweet bun with a spoonful of butter baked into the centre and a sweet coffee outer crust). It was a great night and was enjoyable catching up with Emily again.
