Australia  The East Bit Day 43  Brisbane Qld 17 Aug 2016

We were up at it early this morning. Even when you’re away domestic chores have to be done and today was washing day. We got three loads on early and had them on the line by 8am, dry and off and put away by 11am. You have to love warm weather. 🙂

We then left to take in the sights of Brisbane from afar. Yes, we took ourselves off to a couple of Lookouts, to get an over view of the city. Our first destination was Mount Gravatt, on the south side of the city. The skies were a bit hazy so the views weren’t as good as they could have been, but they were good regardless and gave us a good overview of the city. The lookout is set on a “mount” very close to the city and is the location of the cities TV towers, and a native garden/park.

From there we drove to the main lookout for the city, Mount Coot-tha. It lies to the north west of the city and is much higher than Mt Gravatt. The skies had cleared by the time we got there, the haze had gone and we got expansive views down over the city, including the river which wasn’t in view from Mt Gravatt.

There is a café/restaurant at the lookout so we had a bit to eat while we were there. The Lookout is surrounded by native gardens/bushland and at the base is the Brisbane Botanic Gardens. We called into the Botanic Gardens as we past. It is a small but very beautiful gardens. Deb saw a sign for the Japanese Gardens and we were quickly on the trail towards them. Japanese gardens are always a beautiful and peaceful area within gardens like these and we weren’t disappointed. There was a couple having wedding photo’s taken within the Japanese Garden.

Driving home was interesting again! Yes, trying to navigate Brisbane via an in-car GPS is not for the fainthearted. Roads that run very close to and parallel to motorways, turns that have restricted hours, fast left right/right left turns and building traffic make it lots of fun. Throw in a 5km long traffic jam and our trip home was, ummmmm, challenging. But with a bit of patience we made easy. 🙂

As an aside, we found out at dinner with Emily last night that we are staying in the Logan area, and therefore come under the all-encompassing “Logan Bogan” tag. A badge of honour? 🙂

We leave tomorrow for Byron Bay and a few days of chill.
