We woke late this morning to the sad news that we lost the Men’s Basketball Bronze Medal play-off at the Olympics overnight. Guess we have another 4 years to get that little bit better.
Our day started with hitting the streets of Byron at around 10:30, walking around the shopping strips and down to the beach. Byron is always a people watching bonanza. Deb’s highlight (?) of the morning was seeing a guy come in from a swim up onto the grassed area above the beach, step out of his wetsuit, having nothing underneath and towel himself off, before putting on his dry shorts. LOL When Deb pointed him out to me and explained what had just happened, he and a girl were in a huge embrace. I’m not sure if she knew him before he decided to change on the grass or not. LOL
Yesterday on the same grassy area a guy with long pink hair came up to us and asked us for money so he could buy some drugs. He explained he was just being honest. J Today the same guy was in the shopping area asking people for money so he could get some love! You have to admire his pitch.
Around 12 we headed off to another of Byron’s imaginatively named cafes/restaurants, yesterday it was “The Beach”, on the beach, today we were heading to “The Farm”, yep, you guessed it, on a farm. Well I am almost right; the café/restaurant was actually called “Three Blue Ducks” set within a farm/fresh produce property that they call, the farm which they aim eventually to supply almost all the ingredients for their kitchen. Great concept and the food they served was very good, as was the food you could take with you from their shop.
From there we drove back to town via the Industry/Arts precinct. It’s an interesting area where they have mixed up normal industry (crash repairers, engineering, sign writing, etc) with arts based enterprises (Clothing, furniture, surfboard makers, etc). An interesting experiment that seems to work.
We then headed back into town for a bit more people watching, walking around and a bit of top-up grocery shopping.
Just on sunset we drove down to the Broken Head end of Tallow Beach to take in the view back up to the Byron Lighthouse. Our timing was slightly out and we got there just a little late and it was starting to get dark. We did manage to get down to the beach and see the view back up north just as the dark was taking over and the light from the lighthouse was very clear.
Tomorrow we head further south, and a step closer to home.
