26 May 2018 HK & a flight home

We had another very slow start to the day, managed to get down to breakfast some time after 9. We missed all the early leaving US part of our tour group. Luckily we had said good bye to most yesterday.

After breakfast we walked to the Hong Kong Flower Market, on Flower Market Rd, has been here since the 1970’s. It was a hot and very humid morning, made even more so with a brief rain shower boosting the humidity from sticky to dripping.

The market was about 15 minutes from our hotel, we enjoyed the walk, it was through an old part of town and was alive with activity when we got there. At least 50 flower shops were spread along one side of a narrow lane over about 250m. So many flowers. I was amazed at how many were still buds, but individually wrapped in foam mesh to protect them. Deb was in her element, browsing through the shops and stalls, stopping to take photos every now and then and just marvelling at all the flowers.

At the end of the street, just where it turned a corner was a small group of older asian men standing around holding their birdcages and their prized birds. Finches mainly, I think.  They were all very happy and chatting together and only too eager to allow you to take photos of them and their birds.

We then walked back to the hotel to cool down and dry off.  We had a very lazy afternoon in our room, then packed.

We were picked up from the hotel at 5pm and sitting in the Qantas lounge by 6. On the way to the lounge we ran into Clayton, a conveyancer from Adelaide, and his wife and child. They had been to Shanghai to watch Port Adelaide play. (Apparently Port won well). So we invited them into the lounge, much more comfortable than waiting outside.

Our flight leaves at 8pm, so we will post this blog now rather than have everyone hanging on tender hooks for the next installment. ?

Lookout puppies we are on our way. 🙂
