Africa, Day 21, Diani Beach

We didn’t sleep well last night.  We love a firm mattress but the one here is hard, have never slept on such a hard mattress, could have been on the floor.  All night long kept thinking I was on a waterboard but B & C insist I wasn’t.  ? I obviously had too much time to think. When we saw Marica in the morning to discuss our meals for the day, she said she would swap the mattress over, and kept repeating it was a posturpedic mattress.  Hopefully tonight will be better and more sleep will be had.

At 10am we went with Athuman (one of Marica’s employees) for a  7km round trip walk, along the beach.  It was a most enjoyable, brisk walk.  Marica had given us reef shoes to make it easier over the rocks.  I enjoyed chatting to Athuman along the way, he fended off the hawkers for us after we declined their goods.

When we got to the Kongo River mouth we turned around and made our way back, putting our feet in the Indian Ocean first.

Nearby was a 200+ year old mosque.   We looked around the outside and spoke to the mosque Imam for a while.   Evidently on Fridays, the biggest prayer day they get 700 muslims there for prayers.  Was hard to see how they would all fit in.

Next to the mosque were a couple of 800 year old baob trees in full leaf, beautiful.

When we got back to our hut, we had a swim in the pool, was refreshing.  By then it was time for lunch.  Afterwards we relaxed and I might have nodded off ?? Then at 4pm we were back for another massage, feeling rather spoilt.

We were also spoilt for dinner tonight, we had half a lobster each, was delicious.

It is lovely here, you can always hear the noise of the ocean pounding onto the shore, very relaxing.

Hoping for a much better night sleep tonight.  Our adventures are quickly coming to an end, tomorrow is our last day, before we start making the trek home.
