Yes, I know! Another adventure awaits ?
Sunday 2nd Sept 2018
Yesterday we went down to pick up the caravan, then we visited dad and mum. We wished dad a happy Father’s Day, it was lovely to see them both. ❤️
We headed home and by 3pm the caravan was ready to go. We decided we would spend the first night at Gawler, an hour from home. It was good to get through town, the traffic was light and that made the journey this morning easier.

It got down to -1C at Gawler this morning. I was grateful to be able to turn the aircon on when I woke at 6.30am. It took 1.5hrs before it felt warm enough to get up and have breakfast. ?
We headed off from Gawler caravan park around 9am and headed to Rawnsley Park Station at the southern end of the Flinders Ranges, a 380km drive.
The scenery along the way was stunning. Green rolling hills, lots of gum trees, green pastures and lots of blossom. Many photos were taken by the copilot. ?
We stopped at Spalding to stretch our legs and again at Jamestown where we filled up the car. We were impressed diesel was the same price as home.
About 20km before Orroroo, as we got closer to the Flinders, the landscape changed. Not as many green crops and what there were, were no where near as tall. There was much more grazing land, which is reasonably green. It was good to see the Flinders getting closer.
We stopped at Ororroo for lunch and made chicken and salad wraps. They were delicious. It is much easier to eat healthier (and cheaper) when we travel in country Australia with the caravan. Maybe this is where I should add that we did stop at the bakery here and buy a vanilla slice ?
I love country towns in Australia, the wide streets, so neat and tidy. And the old buildings.
After lunch we wandered up into the small shopping strip (ie one block, both sides of the road). Another block of shops were empty. ?
We arrived at Rawnsley around 3.30pm. It was a good drive, not many cars on the road. By the afternoon the clouds had burnt off. The blue sky, green vegetation, red soil, wattle and the Flinders Ranges getting ever closer, it was a gorgeous view. On the drive we saw a couple of dozen emus (so much smaller than the ostriches we saw in Africa) and about 4 Kangaroos. Unfortunately we did see many dead kangaroos along the side of the road ?
It didn’t take us long to set up, then we went down to the well stocked shop and got some wood for the fire and a box of drinking water.
There is only Telstra reception in the camp kitchen ?, how ever will we manage?!? but there is Optus reception throughout the whole park ??
We are looking forward to a camp fire tonight. I have booked a 7am walking tour tomorrow, think I will be wearing my thermals! It’s going to be freezing!
