Day 7, London markets, Ottolenghi and a park, 26th May 2019

It has taken a week, I had a great sleep last night 91/2 hours, very happy.  Woke up at  7.45am, much better than 3am!

We had a great morning, we eventually worked out how to get to the Columbia Road Flower Market, had to change buses along the way, even helped another couple who were going to the market too ? about a one hour trip, arrived around 10.30am.  This market only runs on Sundays.  It was fabulous, wish we had one at home.  There was a 6 piece band playing who we listened to for a while, was great music and a female Double Bass player.   The market was full of flowers and plants, and people, lots of people. The stall holders were funny characters.  I loved it.

Next we decided to walk to Spitalfields market, along the way we found Brick Lane market, it was full of character.  The antithesis of Mayfair, we loved it.  Again, lots of people.   Spitalfields market did not have the same character, but we got some good Turkish food, and a seat for lunch.

Ottolenghi Spitalfields was around the corner, I enjoy cooking Yotam’s food, felt like a little girl at Christmas in his cafe.   We bought a cake each.  Ella & Ethan I noticed he had crack up on the counter, nicely packaged for £6 but he called it salted caramel brittle!  Could be a good money earner for you ?

Google maps told us the best way to get back was by train from Liverpool Station to Bond Street,  then less than 1km walk home.   Our first train ride here, on the underground.  Much prefer the bus, but no doubt it is longer.  We asked for directions and were on our way. (This evening we checked how much data we have left for the month, we have used half of the data in 5 days. We have now downloaded offline google maps on wifi ?? that should fix it hopefully!)

Was a lovely walk home, the streets of Mayfair are familiar to us now.  The church over the road from us was open, some people were leaving, so we went in and sat down.   A man had started practicing on the piano, sounded lovely, we stayed a while and listened.  Then we went home to our flat and a cuppa.

After relaxing for a couple of hours, we went for a walk around Hyde Park which is around the corner from us.    We headed down to the flower garden which was gorgeous, then walked up to the lake, sat on a bench and enjoyed watching the world go by for a while.   Hyde Park is 350 acres, thought we would walk around the other side of the lake next time.  It is wonderful seeing so many people using the many parks here.

Had a relaxing evening reading. It is a Spring Bank Holiday tomorrow. We are having a tour of Churchill’s War rooms in the morning and a play in the evening.

Thank you for your messages, we appreciate them x
