Day 56, 14th July 2019 Holker Hall, Wimbledon Final, L’Enclume

We had a lovely breakfast this morning all on our own, in a beautiful conservatory overlooking the garden.  We feel like we are staying with a crazy aunt.  Cate is delightful, the house is a little ramshackle in places, but only adds to the charm.  The house has a really good feel about it.

After breakfast we chatted to Karlien about her cruise and Tessa about her trip to Ampilatwatja.  We enjoyed hearing about their adventures.  It is so easy to keep in touch while you are away.

Around 10am we headed to nearby Holker Hall, it dates back to the early 1600’s.  The Estate has passed by inheritance through the same family since then.  The family live in part of the house that is closed to the public, the section open to the public is for invited guests when they stay.   I was blown away by the quality of the house and of the fixtures and fittings.   It must cost a fortune to maintain.  I was in my element taking photos.

Holker Hall & Gardens

The formal gardens were a pleasure to wander around.  It was a delightful couple of hours here.

We went back to our B&B to watch the Wimbledon final, we are both hoping Federer beats Djokovic, it is currently one set each and on serve in the third.

Tonight we are going to L’Enclume for dinner, an early celebration for Greg’s birthday on Thursday.  I booked it 9 months ago, looking forward to it.
