31 March 2023 My FINAL Covid-19 Daily Blog Entry
Its over 3 years since I began following the Novel Corona Virus that was reported in the provincial city of Wuhan China, and the vagaries of Chinese Wet Markets was introduced to the world.
The reports of the new virus began in November 2019. All new infections of the virus were contained inside China until an infection was documented by The WHO in Thailand on 11 January 2020.
21 January 2020 the first case was reported in the USA
It took until 25 January 202 for the first case of infection was reported in Australia (in Victoria and 3 in NSW).
11 February 2020 the disease caused by the Novel Coronavirus was given the name COVID-19
29 February 2020 saw the first reported death due to Covid-19 in the USA
1 March 2020 saw the first reported death due to Covid-19 in Australia.
11 March 202 The WHO declared a Global Pandemic
29 March 2020 there were 294,110 cases of Civd-19 worldwide and 12944 deaths due to it In 186 countries.
31 March 2020 there were 697244 cases of Civd-19 worldwide and 33257 deaths due to Covid-19, in Australia there were 4359 cases and 18 deaths. In the USA there were 161044 cases and 2968 deaths.
By the 23 May 202 the numbers were getting so significant I began to tabulate the data to make it easier to read. The growth in cases and deaths was accelerating, almost out of control.
23 May 2020 | Number of Covid-19 Cases | Number of Deaths due to Covid-19 |
World | 5,298,026 | 339,413 |
USA | 1,644,915 | 97,635 |
Australia | 7,093 | 101 |
Fast forward just under 3 years to today, and the numbers in the above table are dwarfed.
31 March 2023 | Number of Covid-19 Cases | Number of Deaths due to Covid-19 |
World | 683,718,865 | 6,829,837 |
USA | 106,189,505 | 1,154,584 |
Australia | 11,327,773 | 19,856 |
Globally, 678 million more cases of Covid-19 have been reported and 6.5 million deaths attributed to it.
The ASX 200 in the same period went from 5077 on 31 March 2020 to 7177on 31 March 2023, (up 41.4%), clearly the Pandemic did not have a dramatic effect on world commerce.
The following charts are a reasonable summary of the Covid-19 experience for the last couple of years. Each new wave of infections was not as severe as the one before and the treatment of the disease seems to improve based on the hospitalisations and deaths.
My Blog for March 2023 follows as usual, the link is at the end of this post
Now to summarise March 2023.
The month began with the world passing 680 million cases of Covid-19, with 6.8 million deaths due to the disease (1% death rate) These numbers are an underestimate of what is really going on.
The world had 3942872 new cases of Covid-19 and 36883 new deaths due to Covid-19.
Australia has 32328 new cases of Covid-19 and 483 new deaths due to Covid-19
Across the world countries have stopped providing up to date and reliable statistics.
Early in the month the FBI came out endorsing a theory that the source of the Novel Coronavirus and hence the pandemic was a biological research lab in Wuhan, but by the end of the month the theories had shifted back to the wet market in Wuhan. My guess is that we will never know for certain.
Governments around the world have continued to wind back their Covid-19 measures to a point it is hard to tell if any are in place.
Questions are being asked about what will be done with the huge amounts of health data collected during the pandemic.
The legacy that Covid-19 appears to be leaving the world is a vastly richer top 1%, a mentally scared general population and an underclass that have been driven to new lows in savings and income.
The biggest thing I noticed during the month was the silence, apparently the world press have gone cold on Covid-19 and have determined its time to move on.
I hope someone out there has “enjoyed” my words and data over the last 3+ years. While I would not personally call it enjoyable, it has been an interesting journey.
