We didn’t really have too much planned for today. A visit to a local market, watch the cricket on TV and then Evensong at St Paul’s Cathedral in the afternoon.
Well, as the song goes, “2 out of 3 ain’t bad”. Wow. Who would have ever thought I’d quote Meatloaf!!
We walked the kilometre or so up to the Marylebone Market at about 10am. It was a nice stroll up to the market just north of our flat. On the way we passed a building with an unusual sign on it, School of Philosophy and Economic Science, it seemed a bit of an oxymoron to me. Near the market we passed a big old church, a gothic edifice that was St James Catholic Church. Deb wanted to go in for a look, but I said I didn’t want to as people were going in for a service. I said to her “go on, go in, you know you want to, I’ll wait outside”. So off she went only to return in a minute or so! Apparently there was a nun guarding the door, I mean, greeting people as they entered. LOL
So we proceeded to the market. And what a fine market it was. All the produce looked amazing, from freshly cooked savoury and sweet pastries, to fresh fruit and veg, seafood, flowers, and more. Deb was in her (well another of her) happy place. After investigating every stall, twice, we walked away with lunch (a French salad), our nights dinner (a paella), and tomorrow nights dinner (delicious looking & sounding pies).
After an easy stroll back we settled in to watch the cricket. It was about then that my hay fever hit another gear! We hit it with everything we could think of and eventually tamed the beast! I really hate it when my hay fever goes wild, so debilitating. And with it under control I wasn’t going to poke the bear and leave the flat again! So we settled in and enjoyed a really interesting finish to the cricket. Australia won the game, but only after a very fine innings from Stokes who threatened to take the match England’s way. Again there was controversy on the final day. Ashes cricket, you have to love it!
And that was pretty much our day. Deb really enjoyed her salad for lunch and our Paella for dinner was delicious. My hay fever persisted but hopefully with follow-up drugs tonight we can get it back in its box.
That’s all folks, the plan is for more adventuring tomorrow.
