Day 55 10 July 2023 London It has been fun, but it’s time to go home.

Sad to say, but we woke for the last time (this holiday) in London. Tonight we board the first of three flights to take us home.

We had a nice surprise early today, we got a video from Laura of Aidan walking, such a happy boy & mum. A beautiful way to start our day. ❤️

On our way to breakfast we called into reception to try and get a later checkout. We intended to leave for the airport at around 4:30pm, so our original noon check out just didn’t work well for us. We had been asking for a late check out since we got here, and this morning we had some success, we can have our room until 2pm (for a price!). But we were happy.

After breakfast we went back to our room and at around 9:30am our room began shaking. It was like being on a vibrating platform. Everything in the room was shaking. Deb rang the front desk and they eventually said it was from work being done close by and was nothing to worry about ma’am. I think they might be driving piers into the Thames near us. So we will had a gentle massage while we were in our room.

Around 1pm housekeeper knocked on door wanting to do the room, I told her we had late checkout until 2pm. At 1:30pm 2 men knocked on our door and queried why we were still here. I told them to check with front desk as we had paid for a 2pm late check out. Not a good finish to our stay, felt like we were being pressured to vacate our room.

We checked out at 2pm, left our bags at the hotel and went for lunch at the Sherlock Holmes pub, just around the corner from the hotel. It was an interesting lunch, the staff were all very casual service wise and the pub needed a bit of a clean. But our Steak & Ale pies were fine, nice and tasty, maybe a bit more meat in them would have been good. We finished by going down to Whitehall Gardens for a bit of quiet time. Then back to the hotel for a comfortable seat before we left for home.
A slight change of plans in getting to the airport, we were going on the District and Piccadilly Lines, but an incident on the Piccadilly Line had caused a lot of hold ups, so we changed to the Northern Line connecting to the Elizabeth Line (the Elizabeth has air-conditioning, so a win) and a slightly quicker journey.
Got the train from Embankment to Tottenham Court Rd, hopped on the train heading west on the Elizabeth Line only to find it terminated at Paddington. Damn! We waited another 20 minutes there for the next train to Terminal 4 at Heathrow. We arrived at Heathrow around 5:30pm, we were able to check in early and we were in the Lounge by 6pm for our 9:55pm flight. First bourbon and Coke at 6:05pm. I guess that means were are actually going home! Can’t wait to get home.
Cheers all.
