We woke to a beautiful day in Broome.
I took an early walk to the local shop, about a km away, to get some provisions, followed by a quick swim in the pool near our villa. We had breakfast out on our deck overlooking the pool, and inadvertently locked ourselves out of our room. With only our tablets, no phones, Deb decided to email reception to ask them to let us back in. In the meantime we spotted a maintenance guy, so I asked him for help. He let us in, in no time, it happens alot, even to them. A person from reception knocked on our door about 5 mins later, responding to Deb’s email, such warm, friendly, efficient service.
While we’re pondering our fate, dramatic huh, one of the local Agile Wallabies came by to see what was going on. Such good looking creatures.
We got the 10:30am shuttle into Broome to have a bit of a look around. It was pretty quiet in town, everything is still operating on Low Season timetables. We had a look at a few galleries, they were mostly good, but 1 or 2 were definitely aimed at a very different market to us! Broome has grown a lot since we were last here, about 13 years ago. But many of the old Broome icons remain, like the outdoors Sun Pictures cinema.
The Frangipani are blooming, much to Deb’s delight.
and the Boab (at least that’s what I think they are) are in leaf and fruit.
Roebuck Bay looked beautiful as did the bays coastline
We finished up at Matso’s Broome Brewery, Bec told Deb to try their Ginger beer, was worth the visit. So we tried a pint and it was delicious, not too overpowering with ginger and not sweet. We both can recommend it.
With the town operating in Low Season mode, buses were on an hourly timetable, and we literally missed a bus back to the Resort by 10m, not minutes, meters! So we called a taxi and were back at the Resort before the bus had arrived, a small win.
We had a late lunch from the pool bar and had a relaxing afternoon adjusting to the temperature and humidity. (94% this morning)
We had a relaxing afternoon, I had another swim in the pool and then we just relaxed.
Around 5:10pm we headed down onto the beach to watch the sunset. There were quite a few people on the beach and a queue of 4wd vehicles driving down onto the beach to watch the sunset on the northern section of the beach. The skies were cloudless, but the sunset was still very impressive, as only WA can do. (Even in Perth you get the amazing orange glowing sunsets). We got some nice photos again.
After the sun had set, we walked along the beach to the Surf Club, which is still under construction (our friends Barry and Sue had been up here last year and said it was being renewed).
We walked across the road and got dinner from Niddy’s Van. Neither of us will be recommending Niddy’s.
Tomorrow is another day, we plan to make it full of relaxation.
