Day 24 9 June 2023 Hvar Sailing the Pakleni Islands

This holiday thing is getting way too stressful 🤣 so we are having an easy day today.
Breakfast at 8am and a walk into town at about 9:30am to meet up with our Sailing captain for our day sailing around the Pakleni Islands. I’m glad we are rule “followers”, they’re a bit strict here in Hvar!

Rules, a bit tough here.

Day 23 8 June 2023 Hvar Blue Cave plus much more

We had breakfast and were in Hvar town ready for the 10:15am meet-up time for our Blue Cave Small Group Speed Boat Tour. The tour left at 10:30am.

There were 12 of us on the tour, plus the driver(captain) and a deckhand. There were 6 Americans, an English couple and 4 Australians (including us). It wasn’t a bad mix, and everyone got along pretty well.
Our boat cruised at about 25 to 35 knots.

Day 22 7June 2023 Korcula to Hvar

We are still having issue with spam bots sending 1000’s of comments to our Web site every day. Until our webhost can sort that out we have to keep the comments shut down. I will let you know when it’s all back up.

Deb tells me we have just hit the start of our forth week away. That’s gone way too quickly.
Today we left Korcula and took a catamaran to Hvar for the next 4 nights. We had a late checkout, noon, and a quiet morning.
We checked out at midday, I felt the young guy who brought our bags down from the 2nd (or 3rd for any other hotel) floor, no lift remember, earning every euro cent of the tip we gave him.
We got picked up in the “resort style buggy”, same as when we arrived, at 12:25pm and we reached the wharf at 12:30pm.
Our ferry arrived at 12:38pm, Continue reading

Day 21 6 June 2023. Korcula – Wine Tasting Smokvica & Lumbarda

We had a wine tour late morning/early afternoon, the timing turned out to be a good thing. Just after we finished breakfast the heavens opened up and the wind began to blow and visibility reduced dramatically. We were in our room when it all hit which was lucky on a few fronts, we were out of the weather and we were able to shut the windows to stop the water streaming down the walls and dripping on our luggage! All good, fixed, our luggage is now cleaner!

Day 20 5 June 2023. Korcula

We had, yes you guessed it, another slow start to our day.
After breakfast we went for a walk along the foreshore away from the old Walled town, around a point just to the north of us.

Our breakfast view

It was mostly a nice easy walk, as long as you don’t mention me slipping on rocks Continue reading

Day 19 4 June 2023 Dubrovnik to Korcula

0We were picked up at 2pm and were at the wharf by 2:15pm. There was no signage anywhere, and 3 catamarans tied up at the wharf. One was loading, the other two were deserted. I asked at a ticket kiosk on the way in and got a grunt and a point in the general direction of two boats. I asked at the one that was loading and got pointed to a smaller sleek looking catamaran. We joined a growing group of confused looking people. Continue reading

Day 18 3 June 2023 Dubrovnik

Another slow start to the day. Breakfast around 8:30am. Deb decided she wanted a slow day with her book, yesterday was a pretty big day. We had planned, today was a designated leisure day, or do whatever we wanted sort of day.
Eveready bunny me, decided it was a good day to have a bit more of a look around Dubrovnik and the Old Walled City. Continue reading

Day17 2 June 2023. Montenegro and Kotor

An early start today. Breakfast 6.30am, picked up 7:30am by Baldo and on our way to Montenegro.
During the trip we were given a bit of information about Croatia and Montenegro.
• In Croatia everyone refers to the Covid-19 pandemic as “ the corona”.
• Montenegro has a population of about 640,000 people.
• The Croatia/ Montenegro border is about 5km wide as the crow flies, and maybe 15km by foot due to all the mountains and deep valleys.
• Montenegro has elections due on 10 June, it will set the path for the nation as to whether it forges closer relations with either the EU or Russia.
• Locals of Montenegro say it has two Capital cities, the official one, Podgorica and Kotor.
• Montenegro covers about 13,000 sq km, it is shaped almost like a rectangle, and has a longest length of about 200km
• Montenegro has three main religions- Orthodox, Catholic and Islam.
• The name Montenegro means Black Mountain.
• The Port of Montenegro used to be home to many super Yachts owned by Russian Oligarchs, but they all disappeared the night before, the day, the EU was going to seize them.
We crossed the border at about 8:20am. Yay, we got our passports stamped, twice. Croatia and Montenegro.
Local knowledge always wins, the queue of cars and trucks at the border was going nowhere, but our driver recognised that the cars in front were tourists. And were queued in the truck lane, so he overtook everyone and went to the head of the car queue.
The border with Croatia is 5km long as the crow flies, much longer up and down the hills. Continue reading

Day 16 1 June 2023 Athens to Dubrovnik

I had a restless night with not too much sleep, Deb did a lot better than me. We had our alarms set for 5:15am, I hate alarms, can never sleep when we have them set.
Anyway…… , we awoke at 5:15am and got going for the day.
Breakfast in the hotel, then a 2 minute stroll over to the airport. Our flight opened for check in around 6:35. We checked in, went through immigration and made our way to the Aegean Airlines lounge. It was very busy, with very few seats. We made good with what we could find.
Boarding started at around 7:40pm, we went to the gate and got on a bus to our plane. Aegean Airlines is pretty average, but it’s a way from A to D. We took off at 8.40am.
The guy across the aisle from me keeps spitting in an airsick bag, then kept putting the bag back in his seat pocket. Just so gross!!!!! And he left it there!!! Really!! That is sick.
We landed in Dubrovnik at 8:55 local time, Croatia is 1 hr behind Greece, got our bags and went through to find our greeter, no customs or immigration between EU countries. We found our greeter just outside, he called our driver in and were taken to our hotel, about a 30 minute drive. The hotel check in time is usually 2pm, but we were much earlier than that. But our room was ready by the time we had checked in. We have a balcony sea view room, that apparently gets a good view of the sunset.
We had lunch and drinks down at the Cave Bar on the waters edge (that’s Adriatic Sea water). It was enjoyable. Seems the hotel is built over the top of limestone caves, and there are stalagmites and stalactites on show inside a tunnel off the Cave Bar.

Day 15. 31 May 2023. Santorini to Athens and “Our Thoughts on Greece”

We had a very slow morning, a long breakfast, took in the last of the view, pack, checkout and wait for our ride to the airport. We couldn’t get a late checkout, so we waited in reception from 11am for our 12:30pm ride.

Our last mornings view of the caldera, Santorini.

Our transfer was there at about 12:25pm and we were at the airport around 1pm. Continue reading
