Who would have guessed it, a quiet, slow start to our day, well maybe not that slow. We were picked up at about 9am and headed out to Plitvice Lakes, and our commune with nature.
From our understanding the Plitvice Lakes system contains many, many waterfalls and but we have been cautioned not to draw comparisons with Niagara Falls and Iguazu Falls.
Left at 9am with our driver Borna in a Mercedes E200. He said it would take between 2:30 & 2:45 to get there. The ride was very comfortable. The highway speed “limit” is 130kph, but our drivers from Split have done around 20kph over this, one said it was common for police to allow up to 20 or 30kph over limit on freeways.
A lot of our trip seemed to be on the plateaus of the mountains. There are many lakes and rivers and deep ravines, but not a lot of agriculture. We saw some sheep farming, shearing shed and all, just after we turned off the highway towards Plitvice. Continue reading →

You guessed it, another slow start and an equally easy day.
We headed off this morning to see the Green Market and the Fish Market. The Green Market is 5 minutes from our hotel and is an area filled by small stall holders, each selling a small variety of fresh produce. And their produce looked incredible, so fresh and vibrant. We walked around for a while looking at what was on offer, got an idea of prices and just took it all in. Deb wanted to look for cheeses, we were told this was the spot to check out the best local cheeses. It all looked good, as we passed one stall, the woman running it saw we were interested and offered us a tasting, fresh off the rounds. It was very good. Continue reading →

We were collected from our hotel at around 9:45am and taken down into Hvar. We walked from the carpark to the area on the wharf where the ferries come and go. It’s always a mystery how the system works, no signs anywhere, no real indication where each ferry is going to, masses of tourists with perplexed looks on their faces – but it does, somehow. The ferry left on time at 10:15am.

Deb had an early start to our day. Did anyone catch her sunrise pics?
We had a plan, after a strenuous days sailing yesterday (lazing around all day really does take it out of you) we thought we would take it easy today and explore Hvar. 😁
We walked over to the main town square and bought some more sunscreen, we have been through a fair bit on the holiday so far, sun feels much stronger here.
We decided to go to the Franciscan Monastery to see the “famous” Last Supper painting that is there. Rather than walk around the foreshore way we took the back streets. It was so much more interesting and away from all the people getting cruises, ferries and generally onto boats around the harbour. Continue reading →

This holiday thing is getting way too stressful 🤣 so we are having an easy day today.
Breakfast at 8am and a walk into town at about 9:30am to meet up with our Sailing captain for our day sailing around the Pakleni Islands. I’m glad we are rule “followers”, they’re a bit strict here in Hvar!

We had breakfast and were in Hvar town ready for the 10:15am meet-up time for our Blue Cave Small Group Speed Boat Tour. The tour left at 10:30am.

There were 12 of us on the tour, plus the driver(captain) and a deckhand. There were 6 Americans, an English couple and 4 Australians (including us). It wasn’t a bad mix, and everyone got along pretty well.
Our boat cruised at about 25 to 35 knots.

We are still having issue with spam bots sending 1000’s of comments to our Web site every day. Until our webhost can sort that out we have to keep the comments shut down. I will let you know when it’s all back up.

Deb tells me we have just hit the start of our forth week away. That’s gone way too quickly.
Today we left Korcula and took a catamaran to Hvar for the next 4 nights. We had a late checkout, noon, and a quiet morning.
We checked out at midday, I felt the young guy who brought our bags down from the 2nd (or 3rd for any other hotel) floor, no lift remember, earning every euro cent of the tip we gave him.
We got picked up in the “resort style buggy”, same as when we arrived, at 12:25pm and we reached the wharf at 12:30pm.

We had a wine tour late morning/early afternoon, the timing turned out to be a good thing. Just after we finished breakfast the heavens opened up and the wind began to blow and visibility reduced dramatically. We were in our room when it all hit which was lucky on a few fronts, we were out of the weather and we were able to shut the windows to stop the water streaming down the walls and dripping on our luggage! All good, fixed, our luggage is now cleaner!
