Africa, Day 21, Diani Beach

We didn’t sleep well last night.  We love a firm mattress but the one here is hard, have never slept on such a hard mattress, could have been on the floor.  All night long kept thinking I was on a waterboard but B & C insist I wasn’t.  ? I obviously had too much time to think. When we saw Marica in the morning to discuss our meals for the day, she said she would swap the mattress over, and kept repeating it was a posturpedic mattress.  Hopefully tonight will be better and more sleep will be had.

Day 20 Africa  Diani Beach Kenya  25 July 2018

We both slept well last night, around 9hrs or so.

We woke to the sounds of waves breaking on the shore and the smell of the ocean.

It was a day of relaxation, we didn’t move more than 10m from our verandah, and that was only to take photos.

Eggs for breakfast, fresh crab for lunch and prawns for dinner, life is a struggle. Continue reading

Day 19 Africa  Masai Mara to Diani Beach

We started our last day at Angama with a 6:30am game drive. I dont know how we have kept up with the pace, but we have enjoyed it all. We were happy to find out that only the Belgian couple were joining us this morning. The princess from last night (who we found out was here on her honeymoon, I immediately felt for her new husband) had made other arrangements. Continue reading

Africa, Day 18 Masai Mara

Today was great.   But hey, have to say I am exhausted.  This safari business is hard work! Up so early, bouncing around in a Jeep for 6 hours looking at amazing animals, today a fabulous photography lesson and then a 2 hour nature walk, with a Maasai warrior, one of the best things we have done this holiday.  In 45 mins we have to front up to our guide Douglas who is taking us to a bush barbecue which we are looking forward to.  Every day has been along similar lines, not sure we could keep this pace up much longer.  Good job late tomorrow we head to the Kenyan coast for some relaxation before heading home.

Day 17  Masai Mara, Kenya  22 July 2018

Hot air balloon day,  🙂

We were picked up at 5am and taken to the Balloon launch area 40 minutes away. It was very cold. Because the National Park didn’t, open until 6:30am we had an armed Park Ranger accompany us. Continue reading

Day  16   Serengeti Tanzania to Masai Mara Kenya 21 July 2018

We had a slow start to our travel day. All packed and out of our room by 7.20am for a 7.30 breakfast. Damien our waiter knew our order and just confirmed with us before heading off to the kitchen.  Breakfast was tasty as usual.

We got away at 8.10am after being farewelled by the camp staff.

After an interesting drive we arrived at the airstrip around 9am. The overall manager of the Lemala camp was flying out as well. She had been at our camp for a few days.

Africa, Day 15 Serengeti

We have had an amazing day, today for our last day in the Serengeti.  We set out at 7.30am with Bosco, not long and we saw a couple of  black backed jackals.

We saw  a few animals in the first 90 mins, but it was mainly enjoying the scenery as we travelled over very bumpy, dusty roads.   It is always worth it though.

We passed a vehicle, that had seen a lion kill, Continue reading

Day 14 Africa The Serengeti, 19th July 2018

Another day another 5:45am wake up for a game drive. We were ready by 6:25am when our Askari guardian arrived to take us to breakfast. (The Askari in this part of the world are akin to Masai warriors.) We arrived safely ?

After we finished eating our breakfast we were just sitting there finishing our morning cuppa’s when I heard an oh too familiar sound. The staff came singing and dancing from the kitchen with a birthday cake in hand. They danced all through the dining room a few times before stopping at our table and putting a delicious looking chocolate cake in front of me. Continue reading

Africa, Day 13 Ngorongoro to Serengeti 18 July 2018

We woke st 5:45am, another travel day, new adventures.

Today is my 60th birthday and Deb has put so much effort into making it special. Deb gave me a card and then showed me many pictures of many cards waiting at home for me. A special thank you to our eldest grandson and Deb for putting together an amazing video compilation of my birthday celebrations at Mount Lofty House and messages from all our family. When I logged onto the net there were so many messages on social media as well. So unexpected and very much appreciated, I have so many amazing people in my life, family and friends.
