Africa Day 11 Tarangire National Park to Ngorongoro Crater pronounced without the N

We woke before 5.30am this morning, we had a lovely knock on the door and a cuppa arrived. ?

When we were packed up and ready Greg went outside and shone the torch into the tree and a warrior came to get us. It was a bit of light by then  but it was reassuring to walk with him. Evidently the lions were active all night, the female is on heat, during this time the lions have sex between 20-40 times a day for up to 4 days, from what we were told they were 3 days into this cycle, so I am guessing they are pretty tired.   I asked the warrior where the lions were now and he pointed up the hill to my right. But we didn’t see them again.

Africa Day 10 Tarangire National Park 15th July 2018

Woke around 6.15am, had a good sleep, ? unusual for me I  normally wake a lot during my first night somewhere new.

Met Zoya at 8am, and headed out on our game drive.   The first 11/2 hours were VERY bumpy. Felt like my whole body was doing a work out, just sitting in my seat. We travelled at 20-30km an hour and there were few sightings of animals during this time.

But then we got to the marsh land and everything changed.   Continue reading

Day 7 Victoria Falls Zambia and Zimbabwe sides and a Game Drive

We left Sussi & Chuma at 8:30am for a tour of the Zambian side of Victoria Falls.
This area of Africa is what was once known as Darkest Africa, the great unexplored area. Dr David  Livingstone was a missionary/explorer in this area in the 1850’s. He was the first white/european person to  see the falls in 1855. He named them after Queen Victoria, but the local name for them is so much more descriptive, Tokaleya Tonga (The Smoke that Thunders). Continue reading

Africa Day 6 Cape Town to Livingstone Zambia 11 July 2018

I have been waiting for this moment,  yes here it is “Livingstone I presume”, yes folks today we have flown from Cape Town South Africa to Livingstone Zambia. (well Livingstone international airport anyway). In days gone by this area was part of “Darkest Africa”, the vast uncharted area in central Africa that was the playground of many famous old world explorers (Livingstone and Watson come to mind).

But I got ahead of myself. Continue reading

Africa Day 5 Stellenbosch wine region 10th July 2018

We love travelling to different wine regions and tasting the wine.  Today we tried many a wine and ate lovely food.  Was another good day and a great way to finish off our time in South Africa.

Stephen picked us up at 8.30am and we headed out to the town of Stellenbosch, 50km east of Cape Town.  There was a thick fog (glad we weren’t flying today), but it had burnt off by 9.30am around the time we arrived to meet our guide Juliana.   She works at the University and was born in Stellenbosch and said she loves sharing its story.

Africa Day 3 Cape Town 8 July 2018

I forgot to mention the wonderful surprises waiting for us in our room when we checked in on Friday night, my only excuse is that it was a VERY long day.

When we got into our room we found a bottle of Moet Champagne, a selection of very nice chocolates, a small gift and 2 cards.

Thank you very much Jenni from Perchalla and Turner Travel Associates  (our Travel Agent) and The Cape Grace Hotel, it was all very thoughful and a great way to start our adventures here in Africa. Continue reading

Africa Day 2 Cape Town 7th July 2018

We both slept well.  We were down at breakfast at 7.30am, it was delicious.  Greg changed some money. 10 Rand = $1 AUD so the conversion is easy.   At 8.30am we met our guide Stephen in the lobby.  We had a great morning with him, he is very knowledgeable.  A Zooologist who has worked in the game parks of Africa and more currently as a guide in Cape Town.
