We had a 3 1/2 hour wait in Dubai for our next flight. It was the first time we had been to Dubai. Was 40C at 10.30pm, but we didn’t feel the heat at the airport. We went to the lounge for a few hours and relaxed. Was the best lounge we went in this holiday.
Was good to finally get on the plane, it had been a long day.
Number of Views :2051Was a beautiful moonrise last night over the Indian Ocean? But we didn’t see the Red Moon. We woke at 6am, with the help of the alarm. Breakfast at 6.30am said our good byes to Harrison & Marica then at 7.30am Douglas our driver took us to the airport. His father came to Kenya with the British in the 1940’s.

Today was pretty much the same as yesterday, except on our beach walk with Atheman we headed south this morning, was interesting and different. The reef was out of the water, it looked beautiful. There weren’t as many hawkers and we saw a guy who had caught an Octopus I don’t think I have seen one freshly caught, up close. Our walk was more leisurely this morning, we were gone about an hour.

Number of Views :2089We were talking about the highlights of our holiday a few nights ago and I had a revelation, other than the siting of the leopard, and being immersed in wildebeest, no other siting of an animal rated as highly as so many other things we experienced. I had expected the animals on the game drives to be the highlight of our holiday. But our holiday has been so much more than that. We loved the game drives, and did many but other activities rated as highly if not higher in some instances.

We didn’t sleep well last night. We love a firm mattress but the one here is hard, have never slept on such a hard mattress, could have been on the floor. All night long kept thinking I was on a waterboard but B & C insist I wasn’t. ? I obviously had too much time to think. When we saw Marica in the morning to discuss our meals for the day, she said she would swap the mattress over, and kept repeating it was a posturpedic mattress. Hopefully tonight will be better and more sleep will be had.

It was a day of relaxation, we didn’t move more than 10m from our verandah, and that was only to take photos.

We were happy to find out that only the Belgian couple were joining us this morning. Today was great. But hey, have to say I am exhausted. This safari business is hard work! Up so early, bouncing around in a Jeep for 6 hours looking at amazing animals, today a fabulous photography lesson and then a 2 hour nature walk, with a Maasai warrior, one of the best things we have done this holiday. In 45 mins we have to front up to our guide Douglas who is taking us to a bush barbecue which we are looking forward to. Every day has been along similar lines, not sure we could keep this pace up much longer. Good job late tomorrow we head to the Kenyan coast for some relaxation before heading home.
