Carnival Spirit Saturday 13 July 2013 At Sea – cruising somewhere south of Noumea.

We had a very lazy morning. Sea days mean they run a brunch instead of breakfat in the main dining room. Sarah, Dante, Tessa and Sophia were up early for breakfast on the Lido, as were Kieran, Ella and Ethan. Carly was still feeling the effects of being “Gluttened” yesterday. So Deb and I met Ben down at the dining room around 9:15 for a very relaxed and unhurried breakfast. Around 10:30 we managed to drag oursleves away and start the day. Deb went back to out cabin to read the papers on her iPad, Ben went back to his room and I went up to the Lido to catch up with the others.
We sat by the pool while Tessa, Ella and Ethan were swimming in the pool, which was now a wave-pool, with the water swishing from one end to the other. My plan was to have a round of mini golf with the little ones, Ella and Ethan were keen but Deck 11 (or whatever they call the top passenger deck) was shut due to very strong winds. I think they were in excess of 35 knots. We were all disappointed so we went to see what Deb was up to, I took her a Green Tea as well. After a short visit we went back up stairs and relaxed for a while. Then someone noticed that mini golf was open again, so up we went and began to play. It was interesting to say the least. Ethan has a style reminiscent of “Happy Gilmore”, backswing and all! while Ella was much more delicate. Needless to say with the rock of the boat and the wind increasing in strength again, and the dubious styles and experience of Ella and Ethan, this was a very interesting round. The course was 6 holes and we managed to play 3 rounds before the wind really got up. It got to the stage where you didnt have to hit the ball to get it moving, in fact the balls wouldn’t stop moving due to the combination of the rock and the wind. Ethan managed to launch his ball almost over the 2m guard walls a few times. I had to limit his backswing to no higher than his knees!! At one point it was so windy I had to put my finger on top of the ball for them to tee off!! Remarkably I still have all my fingers in one piece. 🙂  Things you do! Ben, Tessa and Sophia joined us for the last 6 holes, which was very nice and added to the fun.
When play was called off on account of the wind, we went and got some lunch. Hamburger and chips for Ella, and Carly and Kieran got a GF pizza for Ethan. Deb and I went to Fat Jimmy’s for a pulled pork roll, which was great. Our afternoon was pretty relaxed. Sarah had a Hot Stone massage organised for herself and the rest of us are just going to relax, after a busy morning taking it easy.
We had another quiet afternoon. Ben, Sarah and Dante and Tessa are going for dinner at the Nouveau Restuarant to night, so Deb and I spent a bit of time in the afternoon trying to convince Dante and Tessa to try the snails. They weren’t really keen on the idea!
Before dinner we went and sat in the Kareoke Bar, and listened to the murder of many good songs.  All the singers looked like they were having agreat time, I guess they are lucky that they didn’t have to listen to themselves, it must sound totally different on the otherside of the mic.
Dinner in the evening was good as usual, and Ronald, our head waiter, has taken to dancing with our table during “Show Time”, and delights the children with special magic treats and amusements. He is very good with them.  We found out that tomorrow night there will be Frogs legs on the menu, so we start to work on all the children early to get them ready to try them. 🙂
After dinner we went to a Comedy Hypnotist show in the Pharoh’s Palace. None of us volunteered to go up on stage, surprisingly!!  It was a fun night, with lots of craziness on stage. Once the show had finished we went to the piano bar and had a great time through to closing at midnight.
We missed the cricket again, to be honest we totally forgot it was on! (First Test V Eng  4th Day finished with us 137 behind with 4 wickets in hand, so there is hope)
Another day at sea tomorrow.
