Happy Valentines Day to my beautiful wife. <3
We woke to an overcast day with a very slight drizzle of rain. The sort of day best spent in bed.
Needless to say we didn’t do too much in the morning, I kept checking the weather radar, and it looked like the rain would clear by early afternoon, meanwhile Deb was deep into her “paper”. (I still need a new descriptor for her digital newspaper, maybe a d-aper, or e-paper, or I need help here people! ? 🙂 )
After lunch I ventured down to the jetty again, and again with no luck, so after a while I moved around to a concreted seawall that jutted out, protecting the boat ramp, a short walk away. I had no luck, again, with squid, but I was getting nibbles on my other line. So I gave up squidding and it wasn’t long before I pulled in a just under-size salmon and threw it back. This was very promising. But after losing 3 rigs on the rocky bottom I gave up and went back to the van and Deb.
We had a delicious tea of squid and salad. Deb suggested I go down into town and try fishing off the jetty there at night, as Martin and Justin had suggested. I got down there at about 6:30, and by 7:30 I had landed an “ass slapping” KG whiting. (close to 40cm long). But that was the end of it. I was the only one I saw catch anything while I was there, a couple of young guys gave up fishing and started bombing off the jetty to amuse themselves! I got a couple of Squid hits but none would stay on the jig, so at 9:30 I headed back for the night.

Another grey morning. We had both got a Facebook message from Ben relaying on a SAPOL news post saying that the Lincoln Highway had been closed between Whyalla and Cowell due to the rain, and they were diverting Port Lincoln traffic via Kimba! It’s nice to know there are people out there concerned and looking after us 🙂 .
So now in the period of a week we have had bushfire and flood alerts for the areas we have travelled through, you have to love Dorothy McKellar!!
It was windy and raining here all morning. We took advantage of the poor weather to just relax a bit. 🙂 Late in the morning I went down for some supplies and to top up with fuel, while Deb stayed back and looked after Aiko. I brought back a sausage sandwich for Deb after sampling one myself.
Later after lunch, I took Aiko out for a walk, she has been pretty well cooped up in the van for the last couple of days. I took her down to the foreshore and up to the boat ramp, on the way back we squeezed in a quick “Geocache”.
Around 2:30, I left Deb in the warmth of the van and went down to try fishing the high tide. It was blowing a gale down at the water and I think the fish were blown to the other end of the bay. After the second rainsquall came through I decided to call it quits for Port Lincoln.
After I cleaned up a bit I took Aiko out for another walk, this time we headed down to the slip yard west of the CP. Along the way we had a look for 2 Geocaches, but only found one of them. But still it makes the walk a bit more interesting.
We had the KG Whiting I caught last night for tea, it was delicious and I think there were only a couple of bones left in the fillets, so I was happy with my effort there. 🙂
Tomorrow, we head off to Coffin Bay, it’s not what you might think from the name!! It was named after Sir Isaac Coffin a friend of explorer Matthew Flinders. It’s now famous for its Oysters!! I might even have to try one! Before we drive over there, all 50km of drive, we are going into town to have a look around the local market down on the main foreshore, and maybe even a little more sight-seeing.
