16 February 2014 Port Lincoln to Coffin Bay 49km

We were up around 7:30 this morning and took it very easy as we packed up ready for the move to Coffin Bay, 49km away. By a bit before 10am we were driving out of the CP and heading into town to go to the Sunday market we had seen advertised on the foreshore.  We drove in, thinking the market was on the foreshore, only to find an arrow pointing inland. We turned left and drove for a while and didn’t see anything, Deb said she thought someone may have turned the sign around for a joke, so we went into town again (through 3 round-a-bouts) looking for the market again. This time we read the Market sign a bit closer and it gave an address, yep you guessed it, back the way we just came from, if only we had driven a bit further the first time!  So we did a lap of the block and drove back to where we went before. After all that, Deb had a quick look at the market and told me to keep driving, 5 stalls and nothing interesting!

We got to Coffin Bay a tad before 11am, Deb cleaned the van and got the washing on while I got everything else set up.  After hanging the clothes out and having a cheese platter for lunch, I took my kayak over the road and went out fishing.   Deb and Aiko came over for a walk and saw me off. While I was out Deb took some time to catch up with her emails, particularly to Georgie in the USA, and rang a few people.

My fishing started well, I had a keeper Flounder, about 30cm, with my first cast and an under size flathead with my second, things were looking very good. I moved around a bit and caught a few more undersize Flatheads and whiting (both yellow fin and KG). I think I may have caught several Tommy Ruffs, I think, I am not 100% what they look like so I threw  them back. (Note to self, research Tommy Ruffs, lol) It was lots of fun paddling around and getting lots of bites.  Things are looking up in the fish department.

We had the Flounder for tea with a nice salad, was very tasty.

This is the best CP we have stayed in on this trip, it’s well grassed and we have a view down to the Bay. There are lots of trees in the park and they seem to be inhabited by Galahs and Corellas. They are very loud!!! Talking to our new neighbours they start up at about 6am and keep going until just after sunset. It’s a little after sunset now and they don’t seem to be tiring!!  (stopped at 9pm!!)

The weather has cleared and we had blue skies this afternoon and we hope that will continue for our stay. J
