Day 67 25 July 2019 Reykjavik Iceland to Edinburgh Scotland

We were picked up at 9:20am and were sitting in the airport by 10:30am waiting for our 12:20pm flight.  Flight got away at 13:20, it was late getting in. The crew are Scottish and I am finding them hard to understand, their words run into each other. As we get into the country side that might prove even more interesting. ? We landed at 16:20pm (2 hr flight & clocks forward one hour), bags arrived at 16:55pm and after a 30 min taxi ride were in our hotel by 17:20pm.

We checked in, dropped our bags in our room and went to a local pub, The Bailie Bar, for dinner. We both had a Highland Streak, complete with haggis fritter! Dinner was very nice and the pub was “real”, just locals, not a tourist (besides us) to be seen.

After we finished we went for a bit of a walk around our neighbourhood. We walked along a small stream, the Water of Leith, and found a very romanesque white stone rotunda with a female statue in the middle of it, St Bernard’s Well. We walked further along and it felt like we were going back in time to maybe the late 1700’s. Beautiful buildings everywhere, so atmospheric. We walked into and around the old village square of Dean. Such well preserved old buildings. The whole area looks like a set out of a 1700’s/1800’s period series.

We then walked up to have a look at the Queen Street Gardens. Unfortunately you need to hire a key to gain entrance, needless to say, the gardens looked well cared for and well used.

And that was us for the day. We pick up our car in the morning and head to St Andrew’s.

So far we have clocked up 5250km of driving. And we still have Scotland and Ireland to go!
