We were on the road to Oban a bit before 8am to catch our ferry to Mull. The drive down was fairly easy and we loaded onto the ferry for the 45 to 50 minute ride around 9:20am.
We landed in Mull at about 10:30am and took the scenic route to our BnB in Tobermory on the northeast coast of Mull. We headed through Salen and up the west coast along a standard two way ? single lane road with passing points dotted along it.
The scenery was beautiful and changed around almost every bend in the road, and there were lots of them. We saw a couple of rarer sights in farmyard terms, along the way. There seems to be an abundance of Scottish Highland cattle on Mull. And before you say “of course there are, you are in Scotland!”, I mean the long haired, long horned variety, they are very different in appearance to your run of the mill Hereford or Angus. And we also saw a paddock full of black sheep, but there was an outsider, a common white sheep in a corner. The “White” Sheep of the family apparently, there’s always one! ?
We stopped and had lunch at a nice small cafe in Calgary Bay and then headed across the island onto Tobermory. It’s a small fishing village snuggled into a bay on the northeast coast. We had a quiet afternoon. Afternoon tea and cake was served in the library at our B&B before later heading down into the village for dinner at a seafood restaurant overlooking the bay.
Tomorrow we leave the west coast and it’s islands and head into the Highlands.
