With no overseas travel and not even Queensland travel because of Covid, we have taken a few a days to spoil ourselves in the Adelaide Hills, Mount Lofty House to be exact.
We are giving their new Sequoia Suites a try. But I get ahead of myself.
We left home at about midday for a short drive up the hill to Mount Lofty House and a 7 course degustation lunch at Hardy’s Veranda Restaurant. I think we gave it a 5/7, there were a couple of courses we weren’t impressed with. But how can you go wrong when Grandfather port is served with dessert. We really enjoyed the 3 1/2 hrs over looking the Piccadilly Valley while we had lunch. The wine pairing was very good, we love trying wines we might never think of ordering.
After lunch we were escorted down to our suite, overlooking the vast Piccadilly Valley below us, so picturesque. We spent the rest of the afternoon sitting in our lounge area in front of the fireplace with Deb’s music seamlessly playing throughout the suite’s sound system looking out over our view.
There is something to be said about holidaying close to home.

We had a late breakfast, 9am. The sun was out and we had a table at the window overlooking the valley. You could never get tired of this view. We both had mushrooms, absolutely delicious.
After breakfast we headed out for a walk through the top part of the Botanic Gardens. Deb loves the gardens and we spent a while taking them in.
Then we were off for a drive in the hills finishing up at Pike and Joyce Winery at Lenswood for a tasting and cheese platter lunch. The wines were nice. We got a couple of bottles of their very elegant Shiraz.
From there we went over to Hahndorf and took a walk up and down the main street. It was pretty nippy and Deb’s hands were frozen. We played a bit of Ingress there, turned the place green. 🙂
It was then back to our suite to relax for a bit.
In the evening we drove down the hill to Crafers Pub for dinner. We shared Chickpea Cakes for entre, both of us had a Chicken Schnitty with pepper sauce for main and we shared a Creme Broulee for dessert.
Back up the hill to finish the night in front of the fireplace. The end of a great day.
25 Aug
We woke to a clear blue sky morning with the clouds/fog settled into the valleys below for a magnificent sunrise.
After a cuppa in our suite enjoying the view we went up for a 9am breakfast again. Deb lashed out and had pancakes while I stuck with the mushrooms. We lingered as long as we could enjoying the food and the view before heading back to our suite to soak up the view for the last time.
We packed up and checked out around 10:30am then drove down the hill to South Tce to pick up the puppies. It was a nice surprise to find Ella home. She had the day off to get through a backlog of school work. She was in bright spirits and the puppies were as well. After a wee stop in the park for the dogs, we headed home and were all settled in back to “normal” by midday.
That all went way too quickly.
We have decided that we will stay up in the suites again next winter, maybe a little longer.
