May 2021 Life is getting back to ……. normal?

We started our month with a guided walk through Veale Gardens with the Adelaide Parklands Association. It was really interesting to find out a bit of history behind the gardens across the road from where we live. This was the second walking tour we have done with the Association and have enjoyed both.

May 4 was Deb’s birthday and I took her up into the hills to The Lane Winery for lunch, we had a very enjoyable couple of hours and the food was fantastic.

We had dinner for Ethan’s (and Deb’s) birthday on Sat 8th. It was a fun night with lots of celebration.

For Mothers Day Deb had a quiet day mostly at home, she did a yoga class with Carly in the late morning which she really enjoyed.

On Friday 7th we did the Adelaide Oval Roof Climb. A fantastic experience that has primed us to do the Bridge Climb in Sydney. The Roof Climb gives you a totally unique view of Adelaide Oval and Adelaide in general, we both really enjoyed it. I did the lean out into “free space”, Deb declined. 😊

In the middle of the month we had 3 nights in a Cabn ( a small self contained eco friendly accommodation thingy, a bit like a caravan in size and layout) in McLaren Flat. We were on the GemTree Vineyard. We did a wine tasting at GemTree and a couple of other wineries, a nature walk around the GemTree vineyard and generally relaxed. One night we had an open fire in the firepit outside the Cabn, and had an amazing view of the Milky Way and all the stars you never see in the city.

We stayed at Carly and Kieran’s for a few nights to keep Ella and Ethan company while Carly and Kieran had a long weekend in Sydney to see Hamilton (the musical) and generally have time together.

On Saturday 15th we took Ella and Ethan up to Two Wells to see our new puppy , Louis, for the first time. We pick him up to take home on the 27th. He was adorable and I’m pretty sure he captured all our hearts.

On 17th we both got our first vaccination of the AstraZeneca Vaccine and went to see Eileen for her birthday. Neither of us has any bad side effects from the vaccine, my arm was sore for a few days but that seems to be the worst of it.

On the 21st we headed off over to Port Lincoln for a bit of a break, a look around and to see Thomas, Sarah and their “new” daughter Lily.

On the way over we stopped off in Whyalla, it was a real eye opener. We only went to the new circular jetty that had been built. It was an amazing view looking south, you could have been at any tropical resort town. (Looking north all you get is steel mill).

We had a great time in Port Lincoln. We spent a good amount of time with Thomas, Sarah and Lily. Lily is a great kid, she latched onto us without any hesitancy. Went had dinner with them all a couple of nights, had a drive up to Port Louth with them and a play in the park with Lily. Thomas and Sarah have done amazing things around their home and in their garden. We had a couple of drives around town and the marina area. It is a very interesting town. We walked along the main foreshore in town, it has a lot of history and monuments scattered long it from Matthew Flinders, Tuna Fishermen and Makybe Diva.

The weather turned a bit windy on Monday so we spent the afternoon inside relaxing.

Tuesday was another quiet day for us. We went over to Thomas and Sarah’s at about2pm and looked after Lily while they went out for a bit of a relaxed time together. We had a great afternoon playing with Lily and finished our visit with a video call to Von and Tom. It was good to share time with everyone.

We left for home a bit before 7am on Wed. We had a great run, and with a fuel stop at Port Wakefield, we were home a bit after 2pm.

We used the afternoon to do our washing and get our place ready for Louis.

Thursday 27th

We went up to Two Wells to pick up Louis from CavSanctuary. We left with him at around 12:15 and headed home. We were told not to let him pee inside as this would be a habit very hard to break. So we spent the first 2hrs home out on the balcony until he finally peed. He had gone at least 5 hours since his last pee.  During that time we fed him as well.

We fed him again around 6pm and then he peed again. But this time almost on command.

Carly, Kieran and Ella came over at about 8pm to meet Louis. They all had lots of cuddles and enjoyed meeting him.

I took him out again at 9pm after he woke from a sleep, he peed pretty quickly on command.

He slept again and I took him out again at about 10:45, he didn’t pee so I put him I his crate, put ahead stone under his blanket, closed the crate door and said goodnight as I covered it with a blanket.

He was good until 11:30pm, when we were woken by his crying. I took him out for a pee, but he just wanted to play. So I brought him back in. His bed was hot so I took the stone out, put him in and moved the crate into our bedroom. He slept until about 5am.

Friday 29th

We took Louis to the Vet in the morning for his first check-up .He was a healthy 2.12kg and no major issues, he has a small umbilical hernia which the Vet will fix when he gets desexed. The Vet told us it was OK for Louis to meet Billie and Vince at their place now, and to go into normal parks a week after his next vaccination on 9 June.

We had a quiet afternoon at home, De. Took him over to Jan (301) to introduce him to her and Cherle-Lynn  (501) dropped in to meet him.

He toilet training is going well, Deanna at CavSanctuary made a great start with this for us. Louis has a tendency to chew at metal objects, that includes the bulldog clips we are using to keep the pee pads in place. He has moved from the clips onto chewing the edges of the pee pads.

Louis had his first slip-up this afternoon, he peed in one of his doggie beds.

Lyn came over for dinner, it was nice to catch up with her.

Saturday 30th

We took Louis down to see Deb’s mum and dad, it was a good visit with no little Accidents. They were both very keen to look after him whenever we wanted. It was hard to pry Louis from Eileen’s arms at the end. 😊

We had a quiet afternoon at home, with the odd accident around the balcony and on the rug inside.

Sunday 31st

Louis slept all night without waking us up, right through to 6am, the best nights sleep we have had since we got him.

We had the windows cleaned today, the highlight of the day, lol. We spent most of the day pandering to Louis’s needs, and had a walk through Veale Garden with him, I carried him all the way, he was very restless towards the end, he wanted to get down. He is good with the birds and activity in the gardens, that goes well for when he can be on a lead.
