Day 37 22 June 2023 Ljubljana

We had an easy day today, we head to London late tomorrow so we thought we would just take it easy before the adventure hits another gear.

We had a late breakfast, which meant sharing our breakfast restaurant with all the other hotel guests, gee they are a noisy lot!! Makes you appreciate getting out and about early, you miss all the other tourists, not only at the attractions.
Enough grumbling!!!

We set out for a walk to the city markets down near the Dragon Bridge. I looked up to the castle and there were lots of “Chemtrails” in the sky above, the skies are so busy over Europe. We got there, around 10am, seems Thursday is a quiet day at the market and there weren’t very many stalls operating. We did see some beautiful looking produce. The tropical fruit looked out of place in the “local” market. We saw some of the biggest tomatoes we have ever seen and quite a few unusual potato varieties. As usual in Europe, the berries all looked magnificent.
From there we walked past a few flower stalls, many beautiful fresh flowers and dried flower bunches as well.
We then walked down Ciril Metodov trg (one of the main cobbled streets) and saw a tourist group looking inside the local council/city building, so we went in for a look. They had models and maps of the city on display as well as a couple of old courtyards with wells in them. Was interesting.
We the went to Ljubljana Cathedral of St Nicholas. There was a sign at the door saying “No Tourists” as there was a service in progress, and the way we read the sign, the Cathedral was closed when that finished. Soooooo, we went in and sat through the last 15 minutes of the service. We managed to get a couple of dodgy photos as well. We got to sit in the Cathedral take in the Baroque architecture and cool down (it was warm outside). The opulence of Baroque churches always disturbs us, the money could have been better spent helping the poor. Turned out the Cathedral was open after the service, we got the day wrong! Yes, we didn’t know what day of the week it was!!!!
From there we walked to the National Library. Unfortunately you have to be a member to go in, and we didn’t want to spend the time joining up, so we snuck in when a member swiped themselves in. It didn’t help much, you needed a swipe card to move around in the building. We almost got into the reading room, but a security guard saw us and gave us “move along” look. We did get a glimpse into the main reading room, yes, it was full of light, where the entrance was dark with black marble features. We had to reverse our entrance procedure to get out, fortunately there were enough people/members going in and out that it wasn’t a problem getting out.

We walked around a bit more, got some lunch from the supermarket and went back to the hotel and had a quiet afternoon/evening.
