Day 6 25th May 2019 London Westminster Palace and a little exploring.

We caught the 148 bus to Westminster. Silly us we got off 1 stop early.
We arrived at Westminster around 10am, imagine that, us being early!
The tour was due to start at 11am with admission 20 minutes beforehand. Lucky for us we were allowed to go in early.
Unfortunately due to all the restoration work being carried out a lot of the buildings are covered in scaffolding, and parts will continue to be covered until 2021.

Day 5 tour of Westminster, London and Hamilton 24th May 2019

Did a few loads of washing this morning, grateful to be staying somewhere, we can do it. It is not going to be so easy for most of the holiday.

We have a Sandeman tour of London at 10am this morning. We caught the bus again on Park Lane, near the Dorchester hotel, to Covent Garden then walked to the Apple store for the start of the tour. It should have been a few minutes walk – took us at least 10! And that is with GPS ??

Day 4, 23rd May 2019, Chelsea Flower Show, London

Woke at 3am, Greg 4.45am. Good job I had a nanna nap yesterday. ?

As we walked to the bus stop this morning, walking through the gorgeous streets of Mayfair, all I could think was, I am in London!  Was a wonderful moment.

Day 3 22 May 2019 London / Tower of London

We both slept pretty well last night. Deb was up at 3:15 and me at 5:30. It’s light here from 4:30am to 9:30pm (sunrise and sunset are a bit after and before these times).
We had prebooked The Tower of London for today and a guided tour started there at 10am.
After we got ourselves ready for the day, we set out on foot for the Tower, about 4 miles away at around 8am. It was a very interesting walk, through many famous areas and Monopoly properties.

Days 1 & 2 20-21 May 2019 Adelaide to London

It’s  been a long day, we both woke at around 4:30am this morning. A busy day before our 9:50pm flight. But at least with the early start we had plenty of time to get through Deb’s list. ?
Apartment cleaned, washing done, quick trip into town, lunch with a friend and then a fair bit of thumb twiddling through to 6:45pm when we were picked up and whisked off to the airport.
Checked in and in the Qantas lounge by 7:15pm.
I got my lounge special, Jack & coke, we must be on holiday.
This is going to be our longest trip away yet, 101 days in total, but we don’t  quite miss all of winter.

Days 10 and 11 Burra to Clare 11 & 12 Sept 2018

Tuesday 11th Sept 2018.   Burra to Clare.

This morning we packed up the van and got away around 10am. We headed to Clare, about 43km away, or a bit over 30mins. Rather than head straight there and get to the caravan park too early to check-in (most parks say 2pm check-in, but you can normally get in from midday onwards) we took the long way via Mintaro. Our plan was to have a look around the Heritage listed Mintaro House (it has been used for many TV shows and films).

Day 9 Burra SA – The Key to the City. 10 Sept 2018

Today we continued our exploration of Burra. With our Passport Key in hand we headed out to discover the hidden treasures of Burra.

Burra and copper mining cannot be separated, it was the discovery of copper in 1845, that saw the settlement of Burra. At its time, the Burra Burra Mine was one of the most valuable mines in the world. Burra had the 2nd largest population of a town after Adelaide. The early workers and their families had to walk from Port Adelaide to Burra, a 2+ hr drive today, but back then the 165km walk took many days, carrying all your personal possessions. The mines preferred married workers as they were more reliable and stable.

Day 8 Alpana Station to Burra 337km 9 September 2018

We woke up to 2C this morning, bit chilly.  We were packed up and on the road before 8am

There were a lot of Kangaroos between Alpana & Hawker and a few Emus, lots of road kill, none by us fortunately.  The scenery on the drive was beautiful, a gorgeous part of the world.

After a few stops along the way we arrived in Burra around 1pm.  We have a nice spot on the Burra Creek in the Caravan Park.
