Day 39 Las Vegas Nevada to Grand Canyon Arizona Friday 24 April 2015 USA Day 11

We checked out of Aria at 8:30am and made our way to the airport by taxi to pick-up the hire car J & G had arranged. We got to the car rental place they sorted the paperwork out and we were on the road by 9:10am. You have to hand it to Vegas, there were banks of slot/poker machines in the car rental terminal. Georgie told us that one time she was here they held up a plane while people were cashing in their winnings on the airport slots!! Continue reading →

A slow start to today, no rush, Vegas doesn’t shut! 
We started the day with a walk along the strip, down as far as New York New York. It’s massive, with the Manhattan skyline depicted in its various towers, the Statue of Liberty standing outside just passed the Brooklyn Bridge! Continue reading →

It’s SNOWING!!!!!!

Time for an easy start to our day. It took us a while to get going today, (Deb sends her deep appreciation to Telstra for the 5am text saying our plan had changed to EXACTLY AS IT WAS!!) hence we got away a little after 10:30am and headed to the Franconia Sculpture Park, in Schafer Minnesota.  Did I mention that it was bit “Minnesotan” brisk out this morning. I think the thermometer read 40F, and a good dose of wind chill, and it was mighty cold out there. Continue reading →

A new day a new place, time to head out and explore a bit more. Today we join John and Georgie for a trip back to their home in Minneapolis, for a few days catching up with their family, and a big family it is. 🙂 It will be great to catch up with them all again and see how all the young ones have grown since we were last here, 6 years ago (surely it can’t be that long ago!!).

Well that was a fun night, not! I think I got a bad mussel, but better out than in I guess, and all good  when I woke this morning. So it was a late start to our day.

We started the day with a bus tour of “Nawlins”. The tour went for about 2 ½ hrs and gave a great overview of New Orleans as it is today and how it got to be this way. It has a fascinating history that involves the British, the French, the Spanish, the Confederates, Slavery, Yankees, Katrina, food and Jazz. Continue reading →
