Today is our last full day in Mexico, we have an 8:30am flight to the USA tomorrow.

We started our day with some very sad news, an Uncle of Deb’s had passed away overnight. We feel for all Cliff’s family and friends, Especially Brian, Mirela and Nick. Our love is with them all.

After breakfast we went up to the large church at the city square near our hotel. It was open and lots of people were going in for the 9am Sunday service. I found it very reflective with the organ music playing, but Deb couldn’t find the peace she was looking for there, so we left.

When we got back to our hotel we were told our driver was there, we weren’t expecting to be picked up until 10am. So we finished packing (it was almost all done anyway) and had left the hotel by 9:20am for Oaxaca (pronounce Wa-harka) about 290km away (3hrs+ drive). Continue reading →

Mexico Day 5

Today marks the midpoint of our holiday and to celebrate this fact the locals began our day with fireworks at 6am through to 9:30am (when we left town for the day) and church bells from 6:30am accompanied by singing. 🙂  Thank you very much people of San Miguel.  We have been told to expect the same tomorrow. Today we left the hotel around 9:30, almost without our passports and cash which I conveniently forgot was still in the safe in our room. Luckily I remembered just before we pulled out of the Hotel driveway.

Our move today takes us north-northwest of Mexico City, out of the Federal Territory of Mexico City, through Mexico State and Queretaro State and into  Guanajuato State.    Continue reading →

We started our day OK, well so I thought. Deb was contemplating staying at the hotel as today promised to be a physical one at the Pyramids. But gladly, she changed her mind after taking drugs (before telling me any of it). Continue reading →

After a rough night for both of us, Deb with her cold and me with a very soft bed playing havoc with my back, we both started our days on our medication(s) of choice. 🙂

We were picked up at 9:30am and got into our very comfortable Chevy Suburban for a days exploration in Mexico City. Drove into the CBD and got out for a guided tour through the city. Continue reading →

Today started with a whimper rather than a roar. We have a slow start to our day.   Just as well as Deb isn’t too well, she has picked up a Cuban cold, and is now fighting her own “Cold War”.

We checked out from our hotel and were on the road by about 9:15 for Trinidad on the south east coast, via Santa Clara (about the middle of the main Cuban Island.)  All up we have around a 4 ½ hour drive today. Continue reading →
