5 Nov 2013 Chhatra Sagar, Nimaj, Rajasthan

Hi to Ella and the other children of Mrs Brunger class at East Marden Public School, we hear that you are studying India now. We hope you like our blog and can learn a little about the parts of India we are exploring. If you have any questions for us, please get Mrs Brunger to ask us using the comments field below.
Our tent accomodation is very comfortable and we both had a great nights sleep.
This morning we went to a local farm and village. The farm was in a neighbouring property to Chhatra Sagar. Continue reading

4 Nov 2013 Jodhpur to Chhatra Sagar

We started the day slowly, and had a bit of a lie in before breakfast at 9:30. The fireworks went all night, even at 9:30am you could still hear crackers going off around the town.
I took the opportunity of our slow morning to take a couple of snaps around the Palace. I walked out in front and found that the “Royal Residence” must have had an open day, as there were bus loads of people queuing to get inside. Continue reading

Sun 3 Nov 2013 Jodhpur – Diwali

Happy Diwali everyone, may Laxmi smile on you.
The day is still, very smoggy and feels like it will be warm, the sky is a dirty grey colour and its hard to make out if there are any clouds or not.
We have had a great day exploring Jodhpur. We left the Palace at 8:30 this morning, stopped for lunch around 12 and were back here at the Palace at 4:30. We had the pleasure of visiting three local villages and getting an insight into life here.  Continue reading

2 Nov 2013 Jaipur to Jodhpur through the Thar Desert

We said goodbye to Jaipur around 9am and headed west to Jodhpur, 330kms, or 6 1/2 hrs driving including a couple of stops. Yes even on the highways here you only allow about 50-60km/hr average driving speeds, this allows for the road conditions, cows, dogs, goats, motor bikes and trucks that you have to negoiate along the way. 1 Nov Jaipur Our Anniversary Dinner Rambagh Palace

We had a special dinner organised for us by A&K, to help us celebrate our Anniversary.
We went to the foyer at 7pm and were met by a young woman from Guest Dining Services (she was more preoccupied with her phone and other things than us), she led us through the Palace to the rear gardens and an area beside the Gazebo. Continue reading

1 Nov 2013 Jaipur Happy Diwali

We had a very slow start to our day, breakfast at 9:30am and pick-up by our guide at 11am.
We headed into the City Palace and got a Rickshaw for a ride around town, visiting several markets, they all seemed to be around the Johri Bizar. Continue reading

Breakfast at a very repectable 8am was a very nice change from the early starts we have been having. We went down for breakfast, and were given a glass of Champagne to go with our meal. What a way to start your day.

30 Oct 2013 Ranthambhore last safari then off to Jaipur

Our wake-up call was set for 6am, unusually this morning we were both awake early, 4:30. I hate wake-up calls!!!  So we were never going to be late for the safari.
We did our last bit of packing and were strolling over for tea and coffee with biscuits by 6:20. Continue reading

29 Oct 2013 Ranthambhore

Today we were up early, before our  6:10am wake-up call (Deb was awake 1 3/4 hrs before our wake up call – she will be a tired girl tonight). So we had a comfortable non-rushed start to the day.  Our Safari started at 7am and we were assigned to Zone 6.  Some on the go research (after our morning safari) revealed that Zones 1 to 5 are the best, with little wild life, let alone tigers being seen in Zones 6 to 9 and the roads, well it might be better to call them poor 4WD tracks. And this is what is was like for us Continue reading
