Sunday 27 Oct 2013 Agra to Ranthambhore Rajasthan

Deb
This morning we had a sunrise tour of the Taj Mahal so we had a 5.30am wake up call and an order of tea & coffee & banana bread, to get us going!  It’s a pity the Tea and coffee arrived before the wake-up call.   🙂  We met our guide around 6am and went for one last look at the Taj Mahal. Saturday26 Oct 2013 New Delhi to Agra and the Taj Mahal

Agra is about 204km from Delhi in Uttar Pradesh. We were picked up at 9am, as is becoming usual, a A&K rep was there to make sure we got away OK. Our driver was his usual happy self so all was good.
Being Saturday morning New Delhi was pretty quiet and there was very little traffic (for this city 🙂  ). In the last year or so a new toll road has opened between Delhi and Agra, cutting about an hour off the trip and making the driving much easier. At times on the tollway we couldn’t see any other cars in front of us, which was very weird. Along the way we read up on Agra and took in the sights of the road trip. Continue reading

Friday 25th Oct 2013 New Delhi

After an exhausting day yesterday, due to the 2 hr delay in the flight, I appreciated the slower start today.
Our hotel, the Imperial, is a magnificent Art Deco hotel, built in 1936. It is an impressive building to be in and has an amazing collection of art on all of the walls. Breakfast was a delicious. Continue reading

24 Oct 2013 Khajuraho Village to New Delhi

Our day started with what might be one of the highlights of our holiday, our driver, Laxman, took us into the old village in Khajuraho, where he grew-up. He then gave us a walking tour around the streets. It was amazing, so many children around and they were all so very friendly (yes, a few greeted us with “Hello, Rupee 🙂 “), but they were in the minority. It was facinating watching the villagers just going about their normal days activities, Continue reading

23 Oct 2013 Varanasi to Khajuraho.

Today started with a rude awakening, we got an unwanted early morning wake-up call at 4:45am!! By 5:30 we decided we weren’t going to be sleeping anymore so we got up and went through our photos and got a selection up on the net (our blog and Facebook).  Continue reading

22 Oct 2013 Varanasi Tuesday

We both had a much better sleep last night and just as well, we had a 5:30 pick-up this morning. So it was a 5am wake-up call followed closely by a room service cup of coffee and tea, with pastries.
We were down in the foyer at 5:30 and were soon on our way back to Mother Ganges for a sunrise river boat ride.  Continue reading

Monday 21 Oct 2013 New Delhi and onto Varanasi

We both slept fairly patchy, and finally decided we were up for the day at about 5am. We had a wake-up call booked for 6:45, which was duly received and followed by our wake-up tea and coffee order delivered to our room.
We went down to breakfast a little after 7 and Deb stuck to her meuseli, while I dove straight into a mix of north and south Indian cuisine. I had a sort of spicy doughnut, steamed rice cakes and a “Puffed” rice(not like rice bubbles puffed) all accompainied by a spiced tomato soupy relish. It was very good. Continue reading

Adelaide to New Delhi India via KL Sunday 20 Oct 2013

We got to the airport at about 7:15am, so we had about 2hrs in the Qantas Lounge before our flight left at 9.55am.
Checking in was a bit strange. We had to have our carry on baggage under 7kg. To do this we had to take out our cameras, tablets and kindles, reweigh the bags and then put it all back in the bag.    Apparently thats OK.
When we went through customs and immigration, the Indian guy at our counter said that we would be in for a bit of culture shock when we first arrived in India. He said the big cities were very different but the country side was much more relaxed. Continue reading
