19 February 2014 Coffin Bay

We got up a little before 9am this morning, yes we are in holiday mode. 🙂

We took it very easy this morning, I took Aiko for a walk up to the main jetty and back, and that was as active as we got.  🙂  The weather is still overcast, windy  and it’s a little cool.

After lunch I left Deb and Aiko to go fishing. At Deb’s suggestion, took a day off from the kayak (because his legs are sore!! I think from being in the one position for a long time) and looked for a place to fish from the shore-line.   The wind is pretty strong, and has been for the last couple of days, coming from the SW. So I headed down near the main boat ramp and found a sheltered spot just around the corner on the main channel. The tide was coming in so there was a very strong current flowing. But I was out of the wind and the sun was trying to poke its head out. 🙂

3  and a bit hours later and I was fishless. I did have a 30cm salmon almost in my bucket but the line broke just before I had it in hand, it bounced off the jetty and back into the water. Apart from a few juvenile salmon and a solitary Tommy (which I threw back) the pickings were every slim, non-existent actually!!

While I have been out fishing Deb has been relaxing and catching up on a bit of reading, she is almost finished her 3rd book for the holiday. 🙂  It’s times like this that kindles come into their own, you are never without a book.

This is the first day on our holiday where I went fishing and didn’t bring home tea!! The guy next-door to us in the CP has a small inflatable boat & motor, he got 40 Tommies, a KG whiting and a salmon, and he was out  from before we got up until about 5:30pm. So I didn’t feel too bad. I haven’t seen anyone catching much all the time we have been here. I even thought of trying the main jetty at night for squid, but there isn’t any ink on it so I decided to give that a miss.

We had pizza for tea tonight, our first takeaway for the holiday. After being a bit dubious of the shop, the pizza was very tasty ( ½ Meat Lovers ½ Yiros) and was complimented very nicely by a glass of red.

Cheers all. 🙂
