Day 31, 19th June 2019, Paignton, Cockington Village, Torquay

We bought a £5.00 day ticket for the bus this morning, first stop Paignton, to see where my great Aunt lived.   However, I had made a few assumptions.  And they never turn out ok! ?

For some reason when we got off the bus in Paignton, I thought I would put my Aunt’s address into google maps and we would walk there in 5-10 minutes.   Well, when I put the address in it was a 20 minute drive away, it just didn’t seem right.  I faced timed Von, but had to use the wifi off the buses parked nearby – they kept driving off, ?so I kept dropping out ?Anyhow a few calls later and my lovely sister rummaged through her paperwork, when I am sure she would have preferred being in bed, she confirmed I had the right address.

I tried google maps again and it came up with another area, ?but it seemed residential and I new my aunt had lived above a shop.  Eventually I googled the address and found the advert for the property when it was sold in 2003, I was pretty sure, I had the right property.  But looking on the street view of google maps it didn’t look like a flat on top of a shop, to me it looked like a flat on a railway line ?Greg googled shops, and the street name and it also came up with the same place.

We went to the post office to see if someone could help with the address and found a helpful guy, he told us it was the right place on the map and gave us directions.   We checked the bus route we were taking, it stops there on our way home, so fingers crossed we might have some luck later in the day.

After a look around town and the beach where my Aunt used to swim regularly we had some lunch then hopped back on the bus and headed to Cockington, it was a further 15 minute walk up the road after the bus dropped us off.   We are loving the walks in the country here, such gorgeous, lush paths.   Cockington wasn’t what I was expecting, but we enjoyed  the gardens and the quaint craft shops.  The best bit was the Church which dated back to 1069, these smaller, old, less fancy churches are our favourite. We lit a candle each here.

Time was marching on, so we headed back to the main road and caught the bus to Torquay.  We had a look at the harbour, then decided to head back.   We sat upstairs at the front of the bus and enjoyed the view as we headed towards what I hoped was my Aunt’s flat.

We got off at the shops and it didn’t take Greg long to find Flat number 15.    The flats looked just like they did on google street view, it just left the shops out below! I didn’t know they did that!   Would have saved a bit of time if the shops were there too, but I get why they weren’t in the picture. It was good to have found Aunt’s place ❤️

We got back to our B & B around 5.30pm, had a drink, soaked up the view and headed out to dinner.  I had the best beef cheek meal I have ever had, Greg had Pork Rib, we shared.  It was also good. Think we might eat there again before we leave.  ?
