9 February 2014 Eyre Peninsular here we come

Fullarton to Port Germein 240km 3hr  drive

We got away from home a bit after 4:30pm after celebrating Ben’s 32nd  with a lunch down at Port Noarlunga Beach. (A very good way to start our holiday 🙂  )

We had originally planned to get away on Monday, but instead of leaving early on Monday to beat the peak hour traffic we decided to get away the day before, even if it was to only drive about 3 to 4 hrs, our aim was for a free camp site somewhere north of Port Pirie. Continue reading

18 19 and 20 Nov Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

We landed in KL at 7:30am and got a car from the airport to our hotel. We were all checked-in and having breakfast by 10am, it was so good to have our room early. We both got several hours sleep on the plane over from Mumbai, much to our relief. Continue reading

17 Nov 2013 Mumbai and Goodbye

We were picked-up by Hemali at 9:30am and we took a drive along Marine Drive the main beach front street of Mumbai, she gave us the choice of going out to Haji Ali , the island mosque of Mumbai, or just looking at it from afar. We chose the later as it isn’t meant to be anything special close up and the view from the coast is impressive. It sits about 500m off shore taking up the entire area, and some, of an old rocky island. During very high tides during the monsoon it becomes cut-off from the mainland as the causeway out to it goes underwater. On average about 8000 people visit it per week, and judging by the stream of people walking out to it and coming back this number maybe increasing. Continue reading

16 Nov 2013 Mumbai

At 8am when were down at breakfast this morning it was absolutely chaotic. By 1/4past it had calmed down immensely, we assumed that the early shambles were caused by the cricket teams having breakfast! We had a busy sort of day. a morning tour with A&K and then an afternoon tour with Hemali, a private guide Deb found on the net. Continue reading

15 Nov 2013 Kerala to Mumbai

Deb woke very early this morning, 3:30 I think, and I woke around 4:30, so it was a long day.
Eventually we got ourselves underway and were out on deck by about 6:45 ready for the day, and breakfast. We had breakfast looking out over the Backwaters, and watching locals canoe by us. It’s so peaceful out on the water. It rained fairly heavily overnight but neither of us knew anything about it. Continue reading

13 and 14 NOV 2013 KUMARAKOM LAKE RESORT

13 Nov KUMARAKOM LAKE RESORT
We basically took today off. The weather was still overcast, but it was still warm and humid. We took a walk around the resort, or the parts that we are allowed to go into. Prince Charles and Camilla have taken over the VIP suites and area, the left side of the resort as you walk in. Continue reading

12 Nov 2013 Kumarakom Lake Resort, Kottayam, Kerala, India

We woke early, as we do when we have to get away early. The rain was still with us and the whole mountain top was shrouded in mist and clouds. We were up at the office area around 6:30, hoping that breakfast might be able to be done early for us.  Continue reading

11 Nov 2013 Munnar, Kerala, India

We woke at about 6:15 this morning just in time to see a magnificent sunrise over the mountains. The sunlight mixed with the early morning mist was beautiful.  We laid in bed with the curtain open watching the new day come to life. A nice very gentle way to start the day.

10 Nov 2013 Kochi to Munnar

It is a long way to Munnar, 130km in 41/2hrs!
The first 35km is through the flood plains around Kochi and its many many villages. We are travelling on a Sunday morning, and I thought it would be fairly quiet on the roads, but alas I was wrong, it’s church morning and it seems the entire population of this city is on the road. Continue reading

9 Nov 2013 Kochi / Cochin India with pictures

Even the locals seem confused when it comes to what you call this place. Cochin is the old British name for this city, Kochi is the traditional and offical name. I’m glad we got that sorted. 🙂
This morning we headed out at about 9:30 to explore this old Spice “Road” city on the Malabar coast of southwest India. The city is about 500 years old and has been ruled by the Portugese, the Dutch and the British, before gaining independence with the rest of India. From what our guide has told us the most interesting part of the city is what they call Fort Cochin, or the old city. Continue reading
