Day 40, 28th June 2019, Padstow to Bath, via Exeter

Left Padstow just before 9am after saying goodbye to Gary & Angela who works for him.   Gary is 72 and still working hard. We enjoyed their company.

We chose to stop off in Exeter this morning, it was nearly half way to Bath.   What a great choice it was.

Day 39 27th June 2019 Padstow

We decided to have a more relaxed day today before we start travelling again tomorrow. A walk around Padstow and its surrounds and an early dinner was the plan.

Day 38, 26th June 2019, Clovelly, Tintagel & Port Isaac

We left after 9am this morning, got into Clovelly around 11am, was longer than we thought.  Clovelly is privately owned, by the descendants of only three families since the 13C.  You have to park up the top, pay £7.50 each and walk down a steep hill,  over cobblestones to get to the little fishing village and the harbour.  It is a really quaint, tiny village with a couple of museums that are well fitted out from the early 1900’s.   It is a marvel to me that the village could be built there.   It would have been hard work.  It was an interesting and worth the visit.

Day 37, 25th June 2019, Polperro, Looe & Fowey

Left around 10am this morning and headed to Polperro.  It is over the other side of the peninsula from Padstow, we had missed this area on our way to Brixham.   Took about 50 minutes to get there. It is a 13 century fishing village, it has a very small, quaint harbour which we wandered around.  Then we walked up around the head of the harbour and checked out the views.  You can do some very long walks along the coast around here, we didn’t today ?

Day 36, 24th June 2019 Falmouth to Padstow via St Ives, Perranporth & Newquay

We left before 9am this morning and headed to St Ives.  The jewel in the crown for Cornwall.  We had a plan to visit the Barbara Hepworth sculpture gallery and garden.  First we had to find a park, which is not an easy task in most towns, made all the harder by ridiculously, narrow roads.   But it is 10am, on Monday and we are lucky.  We find a small carpark, with a few spaces left and it is only a five minute walk to the gallery.

Day 35 23rd June 2019 Penzance, St Michael’s Mount and Lizard Point

Another mixed day of adventuring. We had planned on going to Lands End, but my doubts about it were confirmed by our BnB hosts, it has been over commercialised and for all purposes essentially turned into an amusement park. So we decided to take in Lizard Point instead, but I get ahead of myself.

Day 32 20th June 2019 Brixham to Dartmouth.

Very slow morning. We woke to very bright morning sunshine, but the clouds came in and a light drizzle began.

We left our BnB just before 11am and walked to the waterfront area where we got our tickets for the short cruise to Dartmouth. After that, we walked up to a small hut of the footpath and bought a fresh crab sandwich. Deb has been waiting for this for a long time. We got it take away, and walked to the ferry wharf hoping for a seat by the water, unfortunately they were either all taken or wet. So we stood there and ate our sandwich, yes Deb shared her treasured sandwich with me. It was delicious, and Deb was one happy girl.

Day 31, 19th June 2019, Paignton, Cockington Village, Torquay

We bought a £5.00 day ticket for the bus this morning, first stop Paignton, to see where my great Aunt lived.   However, I had made a few assumptions.  And they never turn out ok! ?
