Africa Day 1 Adelaide to Cape Town 6 July 2018

A 4:30am pick up, is way too early.  We both have this thing of checking the time every hour or so, so that we don’t sleep through the alarm.

3:48 and Debs alarm went off! I was awake Deb was sleeping, I think we will both be able to get a few zzzzzzx’s on the flight to Johannesburg. Continue reading

27 May 2018 End of one flight and then another one home

Our flight arrived ahead of time in Melbourne at 7:00am. We were through imigration and customs fairly quickly. We went to the Qantas service desk and they got us on the 8:40am to Adelaide, so much better than the 11.40am flight we were booked on. Continue reading

26 May 2018 HK & a flight home

We had another very slow start to the day, managed to get down to breakfast some time after 9. We missed all the early leaving US part of our tour group. Luckily we had said good bye to most yesterday.

After breakfast we walked to the Hong Kong Flower Market, on Flower Market Rd, has been here since the 1970’s. It was a hot and very humid morning, made even more so with a brief rain shower boosting the humidity from sticky to dripping. Continue reading

Friday 25th May 2018 Hong Kong

We had a free day today, had a lazy start.  Went down to breakfast at 9.30 pm, then headed over to the library afterwards.  It isn’t far from our hotel.  Our tour guide assured us it was worth visiting. Continue reading

Thursday 24th May 2018 Hong Kong

Had a later start today which was a nice change, we appreciated the extra sleep.  We met our guide Daniel at 9.30am for a bus tour of Hong Kong Island.  We are staying at a hotel in Kowloon, about 15-20 minutes from Kowloon waterfront.  To get to Hong Kong Island we went in a tunnel under the harbour and headed up to Victoria Peak for the panaramic views of the city and harbour.  We enjoyed the views.

23 May 2018 Beijing China – Hong Kong. “Once upon a time ……..”

We were already awake for our 6:30am wake-up call. Bags out by 7:30, on the bus to the airport at 8am. Breakfast was in there somewhere.

An easy drive mostly in the opposite direction to Beijing’s peak hour traffic got us to the airport around 8:45. We were met by our Tour Manager/Guide Melinda. She made sure we all got through the first of 3 layers of security, and it was also handy for her to get her tips. Continue reading

Tuesday 22 May 2018 Beijing China

For those who have been following our China trip, Deb has asked me to do a “and they lived happily ever after.” blog today, rather than the full on “Once upon a time” version. We are both very tired and need to get to sleep earlier than 11:30pm tonight. So here it goes. (If you’re good I might try to do the “once upon a time” version on the flight to Hong Kong tomorrow.) Sunday 20th May, 2018 Xian to Beijing

Wakeup call at 5.30am this morning, really need more sleep.  At the airport by 8am, Plane left at 9am.  All of our flights have been on time in China.  I remember them always being on time in Vietnam when we were there.  Wonder if that is a Communist country thing or if we have been lucky.

Xian, China Saturday 19th May 2018

Happy 3rd Birthday Charlotte, looks like you had a great birthday.

For those of you wondering, Greg was a bit sore and achey today, nothing that a few drugs couldn’t ease.   Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit better.

Was a great day today, we were on the bus at 7.30am heading to a park where the locals go every morning to exercise, dance, play music and sing.  Was fun watching them enjoying themselves and encouraging us to join in.  I was in my element taking photos. Continue reading
