Wednesday 9 March 2011 Good bye Port Broughton

We left the caravan park by 9am and were home, after picking up Aiko, at 11:30am.

(Aiko is our dog, for those of you who aren’t quite sure who this Aiko is)

As usual, within ½ hour you wouldn’t know that we had been away.

Can’t wait for the next trip.

Maybe take the camper trailer down (and a few grandchildren) to Deep Creek NP for a long weekend in May, its camp fire time from then.

Tuesday 8 March 2011 Blue Crabs and Squid

We woke to a very overcast sky and it had been raining overnight. By about 8am we had decided to just go out in the boat, it wasn’t windy, just a bit of drizzle. Continue reading

Monday 7 March 2011 Windy Port Broughton

It was a bit windy this morning to take the boat out, so I had a go at raking for crabs on the high tide out in front of our cabins. Continue reading

Left home around 9am and dropped Aiko off at Carly’s for a long weekend playing with Hanako, Ethan and Ella.

We had a very easy drive up to Yorke Peninsula, it’s only about 180km and 2 hours from home.

WA 2011 and beyond

After much more searching than both of us are used to, we are getting a Jayco Stirling 23.72-5 van and a Land Rover Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE. Car should be ready by end of May!! Hope we can put off picking up the van until then.

We will have to plan a couple of short trips away to test the rig before our big trip. Looking forward to many happy times in our home away from ….

Western Australia 2011 – Our Route

It’s all coming together slowly but surely. Our route seems to be fairly well agreed.

From Adelaide we head out to Port Augusta, then to: Ceduna, Eucla Norseman, Kalgoorlie (including the Nullabor Golf Course, the World’s Longest Golf Course, 18-hole par 71 golf course which spans 1,365 kilometres in 15 towns.), Esperance, Albany, New Norcia, Geraldton, Monkey Mia ( and maybe Steep Point, the most Westerly Point of mainland Australia), Quobba Station, Ningaloo Reef (hopefully swimming with the Whale Sharks), Exmouth, Port Hedland, Eighty Mile Beach, Fitzroy Crossing, Halls Creek, Wyndham / Kununurra, Timber Creek / Gregory National Park, Katherine, Kakadu NP / Jabiru, Darwin, Daly Waters, Alice Springs, Coober Pedy and Home. We are by-passing Broome as we have been there before and expect it to be pretty busy.

That makes a road trip of about 10500km (6500 miles) in about 8 weeks.  Next thing is to get ourselves a caravan that’s up to the trip.

For anyone interested the link here is for a bit more detail on the Nullabor Golf Course which I am looking forward to playing.

Western Australia 2011 – Planning

I have been working on this holiday for a while now but yesterday we started to piece everything together and started making plans.

Winter on the south coast of Australia, (Ceduna to Albany) looks like it could be a bit bleak, so we have decided to take days from there and add them to the top end. Continue reading
